is it possible to use borax in your mix without the tsp? i'd like to have the borax to make the cleaning last but the tsp scares me as a newbie.

Sure, and it only takes a little too, not as much as in apple sauce, unless you live here in Florida. 1/8 cup per gallon of mix will do nicely.
