Your name is Nerissa ??
Welcome and please fill out your bio for us.

Guys good questions about anchor points and ties. Look, lots of times we just don't get on the roof. We have those anchors AC made for roof pipes. We have the screw in anchors pictured above and will use them if we absolutely have to. Tying to an anchor on the opposite side of the roof on the ground is an option, but requires a lot of rope. We do not have them, (yet) but you can get anchors for this too. Also you can use a chain or ringed end rope to strap around a chimney.

there are a lot of great fall protection classes to take. This is a part of the industry that i have been in for a long time and you will die if things are not done right. Please dont read a forum and then just go out and try things. There are many factors that go into rope performance and application for specific jobs. I see one older post that says we use rock climbing rope, well are using Static or Dynamic climbing rope. Big difference in stretch factor when shock loaded. OSHA mandates that to be a rated anchor point for life safety the anchor must support 5,000lbs or greater in the direction of pull or loading. At no time should you ever use a rope that is not LIFE safety rope. Home improvement stores sell rope that appears similar in construction to Kernmantle and it is NOT safety rope.

Miller Fall Protection.com this company puts on a great training class and will help you with getting your competent person training as well. I have been close to some job site deaths and believe me OSHA will crawl through every bit of equipment you are using, as well as any person or company advising you in an official capacity as to your ability to use the equipment.

whatever kind of rope you use, make sure you you rinse it off with water before and after, and try to limit your usage by doing as much of the roof from the ground or a ladder ., thats easier than than repeatedly tying off., (as long as ur able to shoot  a stream of chemical fifty or sixty feet ) . If not , then u need a better pump.  i havent had to tie off ever,. and ive been cleaning an avrage of 12 shingle or tile roofs a week for about 14 years, mabye u have alot steeper roofs in ur area, lifts work too, just take longer... good luck,  ..  jamie, apple roof cleaning

OSHA standard is that you have on a full body harness that has its ring in the rear. Then a shock lanyard, a d-ring to a hand brake, then your rope.

AC
AC aren't you going to sell the harness, lanyard, rope & d-ring in a kit that will not be corroded by SH?

That does not exist. SH will effect ALL of them, some materials are slightly more chemical resistant than others when it comes to rope construction. All ropes and high angle equipment will be affected by chemical,UV,dirt being ground into them and repeated exposure to water. I have personally since 1988 used rope from every major manufacturer, different blend of rope and construction. I have used these ropes with ammonia, dawn, acids,SH,degreasers and various glass restoration, stone restoration products. I strongly encourage you to consult with the manufactures of products you are looking at using in your company.
