I went to get the mail from my new curbside box. There was a postcard stuck to the box with tape and a seperate ad placed inside the box. I called the post office, told thed I was pissed and wanted something done about it. She said she would call them and request them to pay the postage. I said are you kidding me. That's it. What about a Federal Offence? We will require them to pay postage.
The mail box (though we buy it not them) and the post are actually by law the property of the US Postal service and it is a federal offense to use them for ANYTHING other than the US Postal Service delivering mail.
Trust me Ive gotton the bill for every one pulled out of a mail box and charged postage for.
There's no law that Im aware of that keeps you from taping it to the mailbox. You just cant place it INSIDE. I could be wrong about that but Im pretty sure thats accurate.
Some people think knocking on doors is obnoxious. Its all relative.

Scott, you are right. you can not place anything inside the box without postage. You also can not hang from or place anything behind the red flag either. I found that out when the post master called me a few years ago to tell me I couldn't be doing that anymore.
I get fliers taped to my box and that doesn't bother me. However, I come once and found a flier from a pressure washing contractor that used a thumb tack to stick his flier to the post. The tack was in so tight, I had to go get a screw driver to pry it out. Now, that ticked me off.
