We have to do a better job of keeping the cert process and relevant graphics away from public view.

He doesn't use RCIA approved methods, he did not follow the RCIA procedures for certification, and he apparently DOES deceive his customers.
Maybe it's time to reopened the idea of the paid forum and stricter guidelines for certification. I'd like to see that even at the risk of having to be re-certified myself.

A cease order is going out Tuesday, a voice mail was left today. That is how it works Matt. It really does not matter if the logo is on the public forum as it is used on peoples web sites and can be copied from there. If you want a lawyer to handle these things on a daily basis it will require lots of $$$. That is exactly what every other trade org in the country has to deal with. People will try to lie about their status weather we are paid or not, but being paid allows us to have more power to go after these guys.

Also you would not have to be re-certififed but as with any trade org, you would need to pay yearly.

Not siding with this guy, but there are ways around things like this, all these guy has to do is add a line that states:

MEMBER OF RICA, I stress member.

And no lawyer will touch it.

Also he would not be able to use the logo that represents himself as certified. I already have spoken to my lawyer about this. Believe me I am all over the legal stuff all the time.

Sounds great, around here we have plenty of contractors that join the AGC just to get a sticker, then from there it snow balls to others..

To prevent this a new logo should be issued and with a java script by member only. So each member would be issued their own script and in the invent of that member going bad his logo use would stop by this board. Scripts would be on a URL only basis. That is the only way to really protect it.

So, are we upset this guys using the certified or alternative methods? Or Both?

He posted once which does not make him certified. (didn't follow the rules)
Says that he is certified, which he is not. (lied)
Claims to use a method that doesn't use any RCIA or ARMA approved chemicals or methods.
States clearly that he doesn't condone the use of solutions that we do use.
States that he doesn't deceive his customers, yet misrepresents his certification and acceptance here.

If the certification here at RCIA is going to mean anything it must:

Have specific rules and measurments of acceptance to be certified.
Have, accepted by its members, rules and measurements that if violated causes loss of certification.
Have proceedures for dealing with those who either claim certification and or not, or those who willfully violate the accepted means of certification.

Without the above then certification is nothing more than a post count and a verbal acceptance that a said person knows something to do with cleaning roofs.

What about standards?
Training, and continued education?
Saftey?
Insurance?
DOT compliance?
Workmans Comp?
An agreed upon method of cleaning roofs, or at least an agreed upon list of ways NOT to clean a roof.

Without standards this is just a social site for roof cleaners to share trade information.
Which is fine. But the industry needs standards and the RCIA is in a place to meet that need.

Dave wasn't crazy to insist on some of the things he did.
He just went about it the wrong way, and in the end, for all the wrong motivations (personal gain, allegedly)

Look, I understand all to well that I am new here, and though I have hit the required post count, have studied diligently, and have been as much help as someone with my experience can be, and have passed the verbal test, have chosen to delay my "announcement" of my certification until I am able to meet certain standards that I believe should be required.

Namely, my website, business cards, signs, and MSDS paperwork will not be complete until middle of next week.

I was disenheartened to see "Master" roof cleaning instructors post pictures of them personally on roofs without a single bit of safety equipment.
But I understand that the RCIA is a work in progress and that it has grown rapidly.
Perhaps standards can be adopted and enforeced soon, which in my opinion will make the RCIA better.

But, this starts with at the very least stopping any Joe Blow from posting he is RCIA certified when he is not.

Agreed Mat! Many of the things you mentioned are in place, such as a proper way to clean and not clean, and you are required to have insurance. Workman's comp is not required by most states for business under 3 and we have not pushed that issue. We are in a place to meet that need and that is what we are working toward. I have a feeling you are going to have a lot to do with that as well.

Hire you once the fee is unreasonable, lol?? Just messing with you, I am sure the association will need all the help it can get as we get the ball rolling. Whats funny is a lot more guys were all about it a year ago and they had a few people leave bad tastes in their mouth. I am glad you can see through the minor BS and still see the power and importance of the RCIA in this industry. Perhaps some have forgotten that they learned everything they run their business on here at the RCIA!! I will never forget that I was trained by Mike, Dave, Chris, and Jeff who were the original founders and trainers on thei board. Their lessons motivated me to increase my business 4 fold, with the sky as the limit!! All of the mistakes and BS people have seen are the growing pains of passionate people trying to figure out how to train an industry. We should be so excited that we are going to Meet AC lockyer as well as Dan Galvin of the PWNA. Get excited that your association is becoming what most of you asked it to be many times over. You have excellent Ideas and motivation Matthew, I am sorry I did not have time to spend with you more on the phone the other day. We will have much to discuss in the near future.
