Everyone has to remember that we are still a minority out there when it comes to roof cleaning. There are a lot of distributors and contractors out there selling and using modified concrete surface cleaners to clean shingle and tile roofs.

I would be willing to bet that the majority of roof cleaners out there are using pressure cleaning methods over our methods. Most of the contractors out there do not visit these boards. I know of quite a few companies that clean roofs in my area, but they all use the "Roof Rover" and sodium hydroxide cleaners to clean with.

I started out using Cleaner Tod*y products and a water broom. I hated it and seached until I found the ARMA bulletin (RCIA was not around then). I spent hundreds of hours researching and testing different methods. If I had a supplier then that was selling these "low pressure" roof cleaning packages, I would have bought one. They do work. They just are not what is best for the shingles. The reason we all know that is because we are members here in this educational community.

The RCIA has only been around for 2 years. Nobody here was born knowing the "best" way to clean a roof. Education was part of everyone's roof cleaning carreer. We are all continuing to learn and we are all continuing to educate the people about doing it our way.

Just for clarification, the ARMA bulletin clearly states that the roof should be rinsed (most of us, including myself, do not do this) and "High pressure washing systems for algae removal should not be used."

There is no clarification on what is "high pressure". So technically the people using the "low pressure" equipment are not doing anything against the ARMA bulletin.

The people using and selling these systems are not "evil"

They just need to see that there are other methods available that are better.

That is just my 2 cents. I don't want to get into a debate on it. I am all about non pressure roof cleaning. It has consumed me over the past few years.

I would like to point out that this is a PW 101 class. Not a how to wash roofs class. If I was in error in posting this on this board then someone let me know so I won't make the same mistake again.

Also...I thought that if a distributor starts a post it is common courtesy for other distributors to refrain from commenting or posting. I have had a discussion with Lori on this before. Do the same rules not apply here? I do not post on other distributor's threads. If I did it would be to support that distributor.

RCIA admins here make the rules here.

Bill & Chris Run the BBS along with the staff.

I think thats a great question, kinda like a competitor coming up on yah if your at a customers house and knocking on the door as your standing in the front yard.

If there are rules I would love to see them for sure. If its just and un-spoken courtesy we all give one another in promo threads I will do a better job as well.

On a Side Note Nichole, would you ask pete to donate a few dollars to the RCIA when he can. Chris is paying for this out of his pocket.

Its a nice thing if we could get a few more people like pete that help the industry that helps him.

Well Nicole, to be totally honest with you, we have never HAD any other distributors before on RCIA. Thus, Lori has had it all to herself, free to roam from thread to thread, even start threads and promotions outside the distributors area ! It has been pointed out to me by several RCIA members that this may not be the best arrangement for the long term growth of the RCIA. Several members commented thusly "Lori sells pumps and Chemicals to MY Competition, yet SHE has no competition on RCIA " All us roof cleaners face competition on a daily basis Nichole, and it has been decided that so shall Lori. No longer shall she have RCIA all to herself, and rules will be laid down that she will be expected to follow. We have strict rules here Nicole as it applies to our roof cleaners. If one of our guys is showcasing his roof cleaning work, we ask local competitors to stay the hell out of his thread with negative comments. The same applies to distributors. Myself and our Moderators are but a PM or phone call away, if any distributor gets out of line.

MAY I ask that you use the word Pressure CLEANING, as opposed to Pressure WASHING on our Forum please ? We have worked very hard to give this forum top ranking for our Keywords that are NON PRESSURE ROOF CLEANING.

Thus, Pressure and Cleaning fit into what we are trying to do here very well, the word Washing does not. This may help Sunbrite Supply too Nicole, as several people search for Pressure Cleaning, as well as Pressure Washing.

I had to do a duradex roof with my pressure cleaner a couple weeks ago. Duradex is a PVC compound roll out decking and roofing material, used on second floor walk out roofs. The love ut a dent in it, but the pressure was required to remove it. Remember that Asphalt shingle should always be cleaned with no pressure. I have also cleaned a concrete roof this year as well and it did require pressure. These are rare in MD so I really don't talk about them. Chris and I are scheduled for a sit down with the PWNA to talk about certification and furthering education, I see it as a good thing that we have been working on for a long time. This board was almost ripped apart a year ago because the members wanted to pay and wanted a stronger certification. I always promised that we would work on it, and make no promises until something real was happening. So this is what we have so far.

Thanks for the welcome Chris and I will definately adhere to use of cleaning instead of w**hing without hesitation. I do see the validity in the preference.

Nicole, I fixed your signature to better reflect what you do. Plus, you had both links going to your email! This is all fine and good, but I think your potential customers need to see what you sell before they email you ? ARE you the guys who make the Powerhouse stuff ? I know some guys swore by that stuff for housewashes.
