Im from CT and every roof I get has moss and lichen. I always low pressure rinse every roof after spraying love unless it has just black streaks then i just spray. Another large company i found says they use hot water to take off the moss and lichen. They take it off that day. Could hot water from a pressure washer help take off moss and licked

There is absolutely no place for a pressure washer on a roof, hot or not.

The best thing to do is to kill the moss and lichen with your mixture. The moss and lichen will fall off over time. The important part is that when you leave it's dead, and you didn't harm the roof in killing it.

I'm new to roof cleaning but have been a general contractor for a life time and have and still replace roofs. And the one thing I know is that heat will rip apart a roof in about .3 seconds.

The other day we were doing a roof that had some lichen on it. We spayed it once and after about a hour I spayed it again while we were doing other things on the house. The all the sudden a nasty ass rain storm blew in. We watched the black water come out of the down spouts and presto a super clean roof. With only about 20% of the lichen left.

I always explain to the customer before we even do the job, the black mold will be gone once we are done, if there is green mose or lichens on the roof that it will take 2 weeks and a few rain storms and it will just roll off since it will be dead. I just make a note to go back a few weeks later to make sure plus take a photo. Never pressure wash a roof hot or cold, low pressure or any kind of pressure.

No, heat as in the sun. You know when it's so hot out that you would leave a foot print if you walked on it type of deal.

I totally agree with your guys. I don’t know what kind of moss you guys get where you are but there are so many houses I tried to just spray sometimes even 3 thin coats and I come back in 2 to 3 weeks and there are still some shriveled up moss that you can see from this ground. I feel like customers want to see the results. and how can I bill them until there roof is spotless.


Some cases the roofs did come clean with little moss and lichen but they still had the sighs of damage from the lichen being there. so from what i can tell the low pressure i use is barely doing any more damage. tell me if I’m wrong

I also am selling people on a preservative which i can only spray on after the roof has been cleaned so it would be a pain in the butt to do that 3 months after the roof moss has been cleaned by mother nature

just so you guys know im mixing %50 sh %50 water with a surfactant and fragrance. Is there anything else I can add which will help with heavy moss and lichen?
