The next house I bid I got. I went in a little gun shy and probably bid the next one a little lower than I should have, but not by much. I'm doing it tomorrow (weather permitting) and I'll post pics when I'm done.
Here is the house I was talking about. These are patio homes, there are two connected. I bid it for $1200 total for the roof, gutters, and enclosures. Took me all day but I was happy with the results. Sorry but the before pictures were to far away to see much. I'm trying to zoom and crop and see if that works.
I finally think I got the run off controlled right. What do you think? Is this about right?

$200.00? Thats Just nuts. I would walk away very fast from that job. No matter what you do you would never please him. If the other guy uses a power washer on the screens, he’s going to be in for a big surprise if they are old.

Every now and then I will get a customer that says "I can get it done for..." I always look them in the eye and tell them, "I can get a few guys from the homeless shelter to paint my house. There is always someone cheaper and willing to work. We can get the job done correctly and without causing you problems but the price reflects the cost of giving you that service. If you would be willing to let someone without experience and know-how possibly damage your largest investment, I'm not really sure what I can say to you."
Nine times out of ten the conversation changes direction. On the tenth I get a blank stare and I ask them if we are done with the proposal.
Remember, 3 out of ten customers buy based on price. That means there are 7 other people out there waiting to spend money with you.

I quoted $800 to do this roof and pool encloser with a non pressure cleaning method and the homeowner said I was "crazy" Apparently he can get someone else to do it for under $200
WTF?
Did I price this right? I thought I was low.
I told him my price was my price and to have a nice day.
Comments, suggestions, and advice are welcomed.

Roof after discount $750.00 add enclosure to package $225.00 so you were actually Low. As remarked above I also bet they cant show proof of the quote. Sounds like BS to me.......................
I like it when a truck makes a G for the day. That is my goal. I upsel everything I can. I can take any house and for close to a thousand or more and take ugly and make brand new. I'll spend all day on it! Till it gets dark. And I have.
Working on one now. If I can get the wood it would put it close to 2,000.
This guy is moving slow. Cool. (He is prob getting other estimates.) LOL!!!! It's one of his rentals. If I understand right he lives on the beach in Va.
I'm pushing 100% quality! Tell him how we dont set ladders with out stand offs. Ya know that stuff. How we all roll.
Chit after this house, rental. I'll be driving down and washing his house with renting a hotel figured in!!!
I'll sell this one! Here 2 pics of the house

Although Im new at roof cleaning I. Im not new at selling cleaning jobs. I agree with Mathew. The customer that calls you already knows what they want and most know what it cost. They just want a professional to confirm it. I got my third roof off a referal from a customers neighbor. He was willing to pay $500 to have the front half of his roof cleaned. Plain old two story house. Nothing fancy 1500 sq ft. job. But I was shot down the day before by a lady who wanted me to do the roof on her three story mini mansion for half that. she had already decided what she was willing to pay before I even came out. You'll win some and loose alot. Just got to be willing to keep moving forward.

Like I have said before on here, I see these low estimates atleast twice a week. I feel bad for the person when I am talking to them because they just don't understand the guy is ripping them off. They just get roped into the scam of these guys looking to make a fast buck. It sad but it always comes back and bites the poor home owner.
It must be tough down there in Florida with lots of competition. I had a customer (business owner) tell me that his winter home in Florida's roof last year was cleaned for $ 160 and this year he got it done for $ 120. I've seen his home here...and I'm sure it's a big house down there also. He saw our one truck that has a huge advertising banner for roof cleaning and we started talking about it. I asked him what process they used. He said they used a pressure washer, but it stayed on the truck. He said they took up the hose and the small round cleaning machine and used hot water. I'm guessing they used a surface cleaner. And we all know that's not the way to go....But the price is what got me. $ 120 to do an estimate, come out with a truck and pay yourself and another guy pressure washing every square inch up on a roof and charging that little just blows me away. Then I just had to chuckle because we all hear how we all should sell our service and professionalism and not just price. This same guy has tried to get me to lower my price when I did work for him. It was for snow removal. I first gave him an estimate (in the middle of winter) and he said he gets it done for xxx amount cheaper then my estimate. I said well if you get it that cheap, by all means keep using the same guy. He said he's not reliable. He showed up hours after a storm and sometimes not at all. He said he had to call him pretty much every storm to get it done. My response was you get what you pay for. Long story short, this is my third year plowing for him.....AT MY PRICE. So it just goes to show you that you will find people who want the lowest price and you can't land them all. But if you are a professional and do good work, land the good jobs and let the other guys run around and do three NON PROFITABLE jobs compared to your one.

I find the opposite true. The majority of people have no idea what a professional service (service, not job) costs. I have heard the same from all the trades. Even knowing the costs involved in overhead I was shocked at the prices I received for a ktichen renovation. I often hear from my customers that they had sticker shock when I told them what their deck restoration would cost (ours start at $1000). People often equate pressure washing to what they see on QVC and other home owner infomercials. It looks easy, how much could it cost? The machines are only a few hundred dollars, how much could it cost? Educating consumers and hitting their hot buttons of benefits, benefits, benefits during a sale helps them make an upward adjustment of the price they may have had in their head.
There is no "going rate" for service any more than there is a "going rate" for a vehicle. It all depends on the degree of comfort and reliability you are willing to pay for.
