Zip codes used to search for Roof Cleaning Companies
Permalink

I see a lot of web sites that list many different zip codes within their service area (as well as all the towns in their area) at the bottom of the page.

Does anyone have an idea of what works best.... zip codes or listed towns?

I'd like to learn a lot more on how to expose my site on the internet, but until then I am taking baby steps

Hi Pat,
Listing towns in the website content certainly helps for better ranking. It also helps to have zip codes as well on the site for 2 reasons -

1) Customers can easily know that you serve that zip code
2) Google ranks your site when anyone searches using a zip code for e.g. roof cleaning 32606.

From search engine data, we find that people search by entering the zip code in the keyword with Google being smart enough to figure out where to map the search query to.

you can add zip codes towards the end of the site something like - http://atlascleaninglosangeles.com/

Great answer Abhi! I am an old guy (age 55), so when I search for roof cleaning in my city, I type in roof cleaning tampa fl

My Son is age 30, just got the new 4G Sprint Droid Phone. I asked him to find us a pizza place. he typed in Pizza 33619 LOL

Mobile search is becoming big, and many are now searching by zip code, so the inclusion of cities and zip codes can be of great benefit. However, one must be very careful not to dilute their main web page key word density by the inclusion of every conceivable town and zip code we have found.

I feel a great way to target everything is to hang a Blog off a website. You can then use the blog to churn out hundreds of posts targeting every conceivable key word string. This way you get your cake, and eat it too. The Blog Posts must have content, and you must watch duplication

Chris, I have zipcodes, cities, and NC at the bottom of my website and roof cleaning page for just my main county I service in Guilford County.

Is that good or too much?

Way to go Chris! You rightly pointed out - zip code searches are getting more popular on mobile phones which makes it more convenient to do so rather than type in city & state.

By the way, it was exciting to see that my Forum posts here are getting instantly indexed on Google. I am glad you invited me to join this Forum....this is the first forum I have seen which has so much activity. Seriously!! whenever I post something & check back in couple of hours or sometimes minutes, I can see some activity almost for sure.

Chris is the man on the search engine ranking.

Type in roof cleaning on google and his forum and personal website come up #4 and #5 in the world.

He used to be #1.  I'm surprised he actually dropped a little.

What is the rule to follow for not diluting your key word density? I have heard from some that putting all the cities and zips at the bottom dop just that.

LOL Abhi, this is a bad ass forum SEO wise, as you are finding out. Google loves us for anything having to do with cleaning. A few more good relevant back links to the forum, and we shall sit at the top of the rankings and be hard to displace. We are thinking of adding more cleaning sections to the Forum! Like Window Cleaning and Pressure Cleaning, maybe even carpet cleaning ? I feel as long as it has the word Cleaning, it can only help us ? Many window cleaning guys are cleaning roofs, and vice versa.
I had to learn about SEO out of necessity Abhi, to survive. But it is getting so complicated it is difficult for me to stay up on it, and stay up on roof cleaning too.

If you have any suggestions for us, we are listening.

OK! I certainly love challenges. Let me get back on my analysis in couple of days or towards of end of the week on how to get this forum back on the TOP!

Is there any way to access the forum files etc? Being W3C Validated makes site indexing easier & we are nowhere close to it. See this - http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Froof-cleaning-institute.activeboard.com%2F&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0

More analysis towards the end of the week.

Regards,
Abhi

Yes, the forum leaves MUCH to be desired, as far as coding goes.
I think you can modify the CSS Abhi, pretty sure you can, but I do not know CSS.
This Forum does have technical support, since we pay for it. It is from a very nice company in Vancouver Canada called Sparklit. They have a technical person who is actually a computer science student! I lack the technical capability to interface with him very well. IF you want to get involved and help us, I will authorize him to interface with you to make the necessary CSS additions to the forum.
You are quite correct, we are NOT indexing as well as we should be.

Yet Google still Loves us, in spite of these technical flaws.
If you can help us Abhi, the guys here will be very thankful for it.
Many of them depend on this forum almost entirely for work!
Some don't even HAVE any website at all yet, only the power of the forum to propel them into their local search.

It will also be in your web creation company's best interest as well.
Many of our guys ask me what is the best way to proceed with getting a web site built ? It would be pretty powerful if I could honestly say "Well, Abhi re wrote the code for the RCIA Forum, and put us at the Top of Google"

Please also look at our makeshift state by state directory below the forum ? I did the best I could for our members, but feel we can do better ?  We also plan on adding a web site for the RCIA as we officially become an organization.
We own the domain www.roofcleaninginstitute.org for this website. It will have to do a lot of stuff, like have automatic checking of membership dues, etc, etc.

I suggest you might make a free forum on Sparklit for yourself, to get a feel for what is possible for CSS Modification ?

Another serious problem we are having is this. Sometimes, the search results do not click to the thread Google displays in the search results.
This is terrible, as it makes our traffic search through the whole forum to find what they searched for. Clicking on the search result should take you right there to what you searched for!

Please have a look ?

It appears SEO likes both zip codes and towns. Like you Chris, I am 59 and having a hard time keeping up on all this. I read your feedback alot and it appears you are doing just fine.

I got the Expand2Web from one of your posts and like it for someone who has never built a web site. We'll see shortly how it comes out.

Thanks for all you offer.

Well, Ahbi does, and thats what is important. Web Guys have a language all their own, just as we do. Google Caffeine is not drinking some coffee while searching Google, and Social Marketing is not picking up chicks in a Bar no

Ahbi, here is another Florida Roof Cleaning Forum that was the forerunner of this one. It has some link juice for you, or anyone else clever enough to post on it biggrin

It is an old URL, thus trusted by Google. It even has a window cleaning section with a few posts in it. When I do a search for roof cleaning forum, it is page one Google.

"...Sometimes, the search results do not click to the thread Google displays in the search results...." --I tried to Google search & couldn't create a similar situation where the links are not pointing to the right thread. Any specific examples would help to figure out what could be a problem.

With regards to improving forum position on Google, I can help. I also am technical & have a MS in Comp Science from UFL (yup, am I a gator!) so will be easy to interface with Sparklit contact person. You can email me at apatel@vap-its.com regarding the authorization.

Let me play around a little bit with activeboard. I have used phpBB & Drupal forums but not this one.....shouldn't be hard to figure out though.

Also working towards better optimization for RCIA that should benefit ALL on this forum.
