Will the internals of the valve hold up to the roof mix?

I use to have my tank plumbed with one of these ball valves and the valve fell apart very quickly. I just figured it wasn't made to hold up to a material like this so I quit using pvc ball valves.

Anyone else experience this?

I don't have any problems with them leaking. They do tend to get harder to turn over time. Occasionally the handles even break. But its a $2 ball valve and nothing lasts forever. If u got to replace 1 or 2 every six months, no big deal.

My set up had 2 tanks connected together with 2 ball valves in between isolating the tanks. It took no time at all for the tank with more cleaning solution in it to transfer over to the other tank.

Maybe next time go with a different brand of ball valve? I'm sure there are certain kinds that are better than others..

Yea, could be the brand. I use the ones from Lowes. White with blue-black handles.

The 3/4 inch Ball Valves from Lowe's seem to hold up a little better then the Home Depot ones, just buy a bunch of them, replace when they break, about 3 to 6 months for us cleaning many roofs every day.

Where we buy our Sh they have a 1" ball valve on their hose and it's schedule 80 pvc grey with a red handle. They use it with straight 15% SH and only go through 2-3 a year.

That's good to know Matthew. I know the local ACE carries some ball valves that matches that description. I need to put some on my list.

Yeah, mine last 6 months. You can get chlorine vented, permenettly wetted valves but they are $20 and up. (Ori has some with teflon seats instead of polly, trying a few on some new guns.

It's a Hayward valve.

Paul, thanks for sharing the info, that's what I like about this site, no one keeps things a secret.

That ball valve could prevent someone from having a really bad day with a cheap ball valve. Thanks again.

That looks like a kick ass ball valve, 1/3 the price of a Heyward. It is not vented, but is schedule 80. The cases of the ball valves don't break, it is the handles on the balls.
BTW, this ball valve is made in my old hometown of Warren,  Michigan, home of General Motors Tech Center, and the US Army Tank Plant! Warren is a town 3 miles north of Detroit. I have never used this ball valve, but I bet it is a quality piece ?

You don't need two hands to turn the handle like the red and whites at Home Depot.
Go Warren, Mich!

PWP offers a sch 80 ball valve with viton seals. This is unlike the true union ball vales pictured above. We have them in 1/2", 3/4" and 1". The advantage of having not having unions is less chance for leaking.
