Clarification on Chems for tile roof please

I've read nearly every post that comes up under a "chemical" search.
Believe me there is a ton of them, lol

Apparently there is as many opinions on strength of SH and what additives to use as there are States in this country.

Please help me with some clarifications, I would really appreciate it.


This is for Tile roofs only in a hot climate:
I currently use: 1 part 15% fresh SH to 3 parts H20 and about 1-2 quarts of Am-Lo
per 50 gallons. Average roof gets about 35 gallons. 1 application with heavy spots reapplied. I don't rinse guttered roofs, I do rinse lower 1/3 if no gutters.

Should I consider other additives and why?

Theres is a lot of chatter about IPA and such but mostly around shingles, same goes for TSP. I know not to use TSP on painted tiles but what about the IPA?

Sodium Hydroxide has been mention. I have a 55 gallon drum of the stuff for use in our other business. Is it beneficial to add to the mix? How and Why?

What we are using is working, but I'm always up for working smarter and not harder.

Ok some more searches turned up better info on the IPA.

I'm convinced it is worth a try.

Any comments on Sodium Hydroxide, F-13 from Pressure Tek, or anything else not in the standar sauce/cider mix?

I could really use some advice from the vets on using sodium hydroxide to clean tile roofs.

Specifically...

Should it be done?
What mix to use?
What possible issues I might run into?

I've done the searches and the info is sketchy. PM me directly if you don't want to discuss openly.

When it comes to chems, just stick to what we are using. Hydroxide will have to be pressure washed off. Up to A 50/50 mix with whatever soap you are using will work. Some guys use TSP, I do not.

There's nothing mystical about tiles. Just use a stronger mix, more soap, and expect a lot more runnoff than shingles.

What we are using is working. I was asking because in some posts it appears that the hydroxide could work better and since I have plenty on hand...

Next roof I'm going to try a little more hangtite/Am-Lo as I'm not satisfied with the amount of run off yet.
