Lori i have done three house washes with this and once we rinsed the chem off wow no streaks on windows. it just does an overall great job . Saves a lot of time the the last shingle roof i did i only did one pass there where a few spots i could have gone over but i know when it rains they will be gone. Just AMAZING stuff and definitely worth the money because of how much less you can use

Dave, the Apple Butter is chemically related to the Ammonyx LO,  just thicker, and a TAD more powerful as well, as a surfactant. It's main advantage is it's rheology modification properties (it takes less to make our roof cleaning mix thicker)
Because  it takes less, we save some money, and can get a thicker mix vs Ammonyx LO when we need it. roof cleaning

Chris doesn't the apple butter cost twice as much, is it still worth it?

To me it is, because you can take your roof cleaning mix thicker then Ammonyx LO if need be.  I am still experimenting, and all the results of our experimentation are not yet in. But there is some evidence and indications a MIX of both Ammonyx LO and Apple Butter may be the very best possible  one, IF maximum thickness and cling is needed.
But you know me, LOL Always trying to push the envelope, never content to be "just as good"

If it's three times as thick, and costs only twice as much. YES, absolutely it is worth it.

And like Lori said you'll be saving on shipping because 5 gallons of Apple Butter will go as far as 15 gallons of Ammonyx Lo, so that's 10 gallons of chemical saved on shipping.

I can imagine if you put too much in your mix it will slow your pump down. Simply cut back on how much you add.

Looking forward to using some, this is going to be the HOLY GRAIL of roof cleaning surfactants.

It is hydrophyllic or water loving. It should mix well with the SH. Dirtless Dave and a few others have used it with success.

Great question, Blake!

Thanks Lori!

PS: I circulate my mix tank after all the ingredients are in. The fill pipe is up high and the draw tube is on the bottom so it seems to work pretty good. A high draw tube can cause some foam though depending on how you fill or when you add certain ingredients.

Ok guys, here is the skinny on the Apple Butter from my Son and Crew.
You guys need remember we do not own a pressure washer, and my guys make extra side money doing exterior chemical cleaning with the watered down shingle roof cleaning mix.
The guys do not like it for exterior cleaning, at roof cleaning concentrations of 1 to 2 gallons per 300 gallons total mix.  They report it is such a powerful surfactant it takes forever to rinse at these concentrations for exterior cleaning.  They report the more you spray it with water, the more suds you get, LOL
So, we have reached a "compromise" of using only 1/4 to 1/2 gallon per 300 Gallons MIX.
That may seem like way too little, but the guys like it as an all purpose roof and exterior cleaning mix.
I know, 1/4 to 1/2 galllon per 300 gallons seems like very little, but know this.  1/4 to 1/2 gallon translates in surfactant strength to about 8 to 12 big bottles of Dawn! This is pure stuff.
My guys report that these relatively weak mix ratios clean a roof very well, with very noticeable suds and cleaning during a rain. They report the extra added amounts matter only as far as thickening and cling go.
So, like it or not, these are  the reports of my Son and his helpers, who have been out using Apple Butter daily for awhile.
Another report is this, if you have used it strong in your tanks, add water slowly when re filling. The Apple Buttter will suds up like shampoo on steroids!  We had to use a gallon and 1/2 in our 300 gallon tank for cling on a bitch of a shingle roof.  We had 40 gallons left, went to fill with water before adding chemical, and suds were so bad we had to wait awhile, and not fill as completely!  The guys love it at this ratio for exterior cleaning and roofs, and we feel it acts as a lubricant for the pumps.

Chris, thanks for this update. It sounds like this is a great surfactant which gets impressive results with just a little required in the mix. I just purchased 10 gallons of Ammonyx Lo, but after reading this, I will definitely be ordering some Apple Butter (which will be especially useful for the steep roofs.

You are welcome Guys, I forgot to add this. Customers are loving the suds coming off their roofs during a rain. We are getting more "You guys did a wonderful job, I'm gonna tell my friends " type of calls.

So if I'm reading this right it is a must have for tile roofs then. I try to keep the run off down to next to nothing and find myself using a lot more AM-Lo than I want.

Got a 12/12 coming up. Using Dawn, and apple cider. Like the one in Edgewater, Md. Sold it couple days ago. Roof wash I did yesterday Ran out of Dawn, so hit it HARD with apple cider. Downspouts poured love like carazy! All kinds of fragile plants around it, and new ones she just put in. Uggg! I rinsed the closest downspout, to the plants, till it dripped love. Plus Before, Durring, and After. Of that area, with focus on THAT area.

Camera was dead yesterday, so no pics. Bought a new one today. This the First roof wash I'm worried about.

Chit. I over killed the rinse. I am and I aint worried. Experience, "feel" tells me not to worry.

Whatever you use for a surficant, dont run out. I have 2 large bottles of Dawn on the side box. When I get down to one, I'll buy another. Kinda how I roll with other Important chems. Get to a certain gallon and reup. Hope this helps. Just common sense, after the fact. LOL! Another mistake that will not happen again!

...Prob nothing happend bad.
