As you can see from my feed backs that I am new to the roof cleaning industry BUT not to the Powerwashing Field. I hear all kinds of stories about the Delavan pumps.

Could so of you Veterans chime in for us newbies on some Do's and Dont's that will keep our pumps running for the long haul?

I know the basics such as rinse with at least 15 -20 gallons of fresh water after each use.

I have a 12volt fan on the pump.
Take the lid off on hot days.
Do not squeeze trigger off and on. ( what is the reason behind this )?


Any other tip, tricks you can provide. Will be greatly appreciated.

I think its because it keeps going in and out of bypass.

When you first pull the trigger there is a surge of excess power that goes through the pump which can cause damage in the long run.

I would not keep the pump in a box unless it is not being used (so it does not get rained on) because it needs a lot of heat dissipation. I don't run mine in boxes, just keep them out in the open and cover them when bad weather is close.

Use very thick wires like 12 gauge or 10 gauge and don't run long lengths of wire, keep the pump close to the battery.

If you don't have your battery wired into the trailer wiring system so it is being charged when driving then I would get one of the newer charger/conditioners and put it on the charger every nite, those new chargers will not over charge the battery and you will have a good charge on the battery when you need it.

Use large hoses for the inlet/outlet to keep it supplied with chemical.

For the on/off switch, I like the illuminated switches so you know the power is on but I also like the idea of another switch at the battery so you can kill all the power in case the other switch is accidentally left on or is bumped and turned on.
