Is the snow on the roofs creating more algae and magma

We have had allot of snow in new jersey for the past month and a half. I was driving around today as the snow was melting and seen a couple of roofs that i see everyday with stains and noticed that the stains have grown larger and higher up on the roof closer to the ridge. I know of one roof where at least 3 months ago the stains weren't that bad.

The algae feeds off the limestone and water and no sunlight. so in theory the existing stains should be getting worse becuase there is more food for them to grow. Right!

So in closing is the snow are friend for this upcoming roof cleaning season. I think so.

Yes. The snow is a roof cleaner's friend. Last year, we had a terrible ice storm that was classified as the worst natural disaster in KY history. Come march, I saw roof stains and streaks on these Evansville, Newburgh, and Henderson roofs that had not been there nefore. The ice sat on top of the roofs, creating a perfect environment for the algae to breed and grow.

I don't know if that's true or not.  Does it grow in the winter or does it go dormant.  Yes it does need water and limestone but I also think it needs Humidity. I don't know for sure.
