I forgot to say that the veterans weren't allowed to answer yet! Good stuff though. Everyone is right so far. And the little intangibles add up quick. I've made more money on one $1200 than I have on 3 $400 jobs, and vice versa. Sometimes the larger jobs seem like "the big fish", but all that glitters is not gold. I've also lost my rear end on some of those $1200 jobs.
Keep it coming though. There are a few more things that can be mentioned in this thread.....
At first, I was thinking that one $1200 job would be better than even 3 $500 jobs because of drive time, set up, tear down, amount of time, etc. Even though it's $300 less, the $1200 job would be less labor. Thinking about it more, though, led me to marketing potential. 3 jobs in different areas allows for greater visibility. You have 2 more customers talking to neighbors about the great job you did. You have 2 more houses being seen by passersbys. You have 2 more opportunities for yard signs. Nevermind, I'll just take all of the jobs!!

Personally, I like residential. I have one big commercial job that dam near broke us! They take a LONG time to pay sometimes.
To me, it is like the NFL Draft. You can take a top 3 pick, OR ya can trade down in the draft for more draft picks ? IF one of the top 3 picks work out, cool But if they don't, you are screwed Tom Brady was a 5th round draft pick ...
