Safety Zone when Spraying Roof

I've read and noticed that a few of you have talked about coning off your work area to create a safety zone. Could you explain your thoughts concerning the breathing in of the SH mixture fumes. I know it could be harmful to breath in the fumes but at what distance, etc.

Distance will depend on wind. Just were a respirator and save your lungs. Wearing a respirator is the RCIA certified standard as well as an OSHA rule for spraying chemicals.

Yes, wear a respirator, or wheeze like me the rest of your life ?
My lungs are toast from cleaning thousands of roofs w/o a respirator, learn from MY mistakes, save your lungs.

If you can't take a breath of fresh air after holding it for as long as possible, then you are too close.  Your lungs will not like you.  You will be dead roof cleaner, and then you will be in a world of chit ashamed

I have a lil to share about breathing in SH. I had just found out about these chems and what i could use them for. Mold removal! To practice with it before going out and selling it i did some work at my parents house. There was mold close the the ground on 3 sides of the house. spray on rinse off. Was working great! There is an enclosed walkway to the basement from the outside. Chit load of green mold. After I got about 1/4 of it sprayed I couldnt stay down there for more than 5 seconds. I came out. And went back down. I had to finish it! I got it done didnt know the health hazards! I do now. I'm ok n all. Just wont do that again with out a respirator, lol!!! Sodium hypochlorite does permanent damage to your lungs!

How about the customers and others in the neighborhood? Should the homeowner stay inside while the house is being sprayed?

Well you dont want the customer getting any of it on their clothes! lol!!! It prob be best if they stay indoors or do the job when they are at work! Because what you going to wear to work will have spots on it, holes, this is mostly from washing homes not roofs. Anyway Presoak the plants before durring and after. Once the roots are full of water they dont drink more but hit them again to be on safe side. Durring and after. Dilute dilute dilute! They wil drink again! This is the best way to wash roofs for us, the homeowner, the shingle manufacturers, the shingles, everybody! This comes from experience not what I've read. RCIA  Rocks! - Mike

P.S. Temps are getting closer and closer to 50 degrees!!! This month Daylight saving starts! Longer days to make money! Spring! I smell MONEY!
