Use 4x8 3/4" to 1" plywood or waferboard. Go to local construction jobs and ask to take and haul off smaller 4x4 panels or other ugly stained sheet goods that they would otherwise throw in the landfill.

Haul it off if they will give them to you? If you tewll them that by them giving the usable but not pretty sheet goods to you, they are saving money while also reducing valuable landfill space, You are the good guy.

It saves them money in weight at the landfill weigh station and gives you the wood you need to protect the areas from tire damage.
