Hi Clyde, I've always worn the thin, short sleeve Dickies coveralls: dark blue, light blue, tan and gray ones. I believe they are a polyester blend. Get 'em from Walmart. Never tried the pants. 10% SH through the pressure washer siphon has never left a trace. I'm sure I must have gotten straight SH on them now and then, but it doesn't show. Wayne
what do we do with that rope that you use to raise and lower the ladder, it always seems to be in the way, I dont know how many times I got hung up on it and almost plunged to my death?
what do you do when your 2 or 3 stories up and you arouse the bees, and the bats when the mix hits their home and they come diving at you.
The rope needs to be firmly tied to the rungs, in the center of the ladder, just like it is when you transport it. This will ensure it is out of the way while you are climbing the ladder. Being tied to the rungs also protects against the clamps becoming unhooked and the ladder sliding down itself and damaging your arms or hands that may be between the rungs.
As far as bees and bats, wasps, and any other critters that may live up there, a pre-climb observation of the work area is always required. Any dangers will be revealed by this action and preventative measures can be taken. Just as you look for electrical hazards, check out the insect population! If you happen to overlook a threat to your safety and get attacked, try to remain calm as you carefully desend the ladder, praying loudly. LOL
How did this thread digress from what clothes to wear to bugs? Gary is correct about the ladder placement. I have witnessed first had what happens when the base of a ladder id placed too far from the wall. Let's say he had 3 months with his left arm in a brace sticking straight out. Bend your elbow 90 degrees and then lift your arm to shoulder height and he was like that for 3 months. he couldn't drive his truck because it was a stick and his Corvette seat was too low for his arm to stick out the window.
Catching on a gutter...LOL. Hell these things come loose with nothing but wet leaves in them, you think they are going to hold a falling ladder? The quality of discussion on this forum is going down quick. Telling someone the incorrect way to set a ladder is bringing liability on you.
Hey Gary I didn't know you were a former BellSouth Alumni. You must have worked on the network side of the house, I was on the CPE side installing PBX systems.

Yes I was a Construction Supvr. Spent 30 years and a month with them and retired at age 48. Had a business the last 10 years with them and 13 more after retirement. 401 crashed with the economy, so its back to work. The day I retired, I had 23 cable splicers working for me. Throughout my career I averaged 18-20 employees reporting to me. 90% of the time they were working off of ladders. In my 30 years, there were NO reportable ladder accidents in my group, because we TAUGHT and ENFORCED what I have been sharing (preaching) on here trying to keep people safe. If it just prevents one accident to anyone, I will be happy.
I boughts some shorts and after one cleaning they were covered in bleach. So, I decided to bleach them completely. Now when I get bleach on them it doesnt show up! :)

. All the shorts I wear are actually Nylon bathing suit style and work great. Remember, it stays warm down here most all of the year so you will never see me in long pants. I hate them!
Ditto on that. I've lived in Swim suits for the last 20 years...lol

When I was a cook at Denny's way to long ago we had to wear white pants. So one time I decided that if a little bleach in your laundry helped keep them white, then a lot of bleach must be better. Ya right! I put the pants in the sink and let them soak in 90% bleach 10% water. Came back and they were a tattered mess. I did say this was a long, long time ago didn't I? ..lol

Ok, heres the question. Is there something a person could keep handy on his rig that would kill the bleaching action of chlorine? I have ruined more clothes in the last 3 weeks than I care to talk about. Would the stuff you use in aquariums to remove chlorine work, if you mixed it up in heavy concentrations and kept in a spray bottle? Would it also keep a person from getting a chemical burn, or of a lesser nature?
What is the most used color of clothing that roof cleaners wear? At the rate I'm going, it better be WHITE.
I wash roofs in my tighty whiteys!!! Just messin! This a good thread, glad it's been brought back up! Guys are searchin.. Lotta good stuff here!
EDIT: Heres a pic of one of my old shirt! Black was not the way to go. LOL

Dickies work pants, muck boots, and anything with nylon or polyester. All my shirts are white or ash grey, and 100% cotton. They tend to end up with holes in them. The next batch I order will probably be a 50/50 blend.
Bingo! We have a winner!!!!! All my shirts are 50/50 blend and it doesn't matter how much Love I get on them they never bleach out or get holes in them. The wife likes them cause they are easier to Clean too. For shoes I just wear sneakers or high white rubber boots. All the shorts I wear are actually Nylon bathing suit style and work great. Remember, it stays warm down here most all of the year so you will never see me in long pants. I hate them!
Exactly which shirt do you wear in the Florida heat? Item# for example.
Thanks
