i am just starting.  I don't have a truck or a trailer.  I do have a cargo van.  Can I keep everything in the van (pump and tank) without being killed by sh fumes?  Also, i would like to include my young boys (6 and 4) in my work day whenever possible.  What safety precautions must I take?  I really appreciate this forum.  It has helped out quite a bit so far!

Thanks,
Mike

Hi mike

I notice in one of Chris's post where he would take the door off the box truck due to fumes. S.H. is nasty stuff in closed in areas.

No child of that age should be near any roof cleaning. This solution getting on the skin alone...forget the eyes is very painful...even when its mixed. I would say that is way to young to be near this type of work.

Thanks guys for the advice and honesty.  It sounds like an enclosed van is not the best idea.  Maybe I should think of trading for a truck or looking on craigslist for an inexpensive trailer.
Take Care.

since your putting kids in the van i wouldn't put chem in it but if its just you or if it was just me i would seel the lid on the tank with a gasket and run a vent tube to the outside of the van where the fumes can escape i plan on doing this later on. Vans are good advertising   cheep and cheep to drive around

There are many that use enclosed vans and they do work but you have to be aware of the fumes or drive around wearing your regulator. Someone with a van speak up.

As for the kids you need to keep them away as they don't know the dangers that are involved. 4 and 6 is Waaaay too young to take to work with you. Look at it from a customer's point of view also. How you like your electrician or plumber bringing their 4 year old with them?

Thanks again for the advise. For sure, i love my children and i don't want them hurt. I am away from home a lot so i am looking for a way to be apart of their lives more. I am sure i will come up with another strategy. As for the van, it sounds like it might be possible with proper ventalation?

I like Flatbed Trucks, super easy to work off of, and the Tank is outside the vehicle.
Get at least a 3/4 ton, I personally like a 1 ton dually.
The second tire on a dually has saved my azz ,more then once.

I think a flat bed would be great. I am also an electrical contractor so I need something that would work with both businesses. I really like the simplicity of the flat bed; no nonsense; just drive and work. Thank you for your insight!

Don't be afraid, that is when accidents happen. Be respectful.
