It's always profitable when you offer more than one service. Usually if I am out at a customers home, the more you talk with them and show before and afters of differant things, about 90% of the time it leads to more work. Here in Ohio I clean a lot of gutters in the spring believe it or not, after all the cottonwoods fall. Cleaning gutters twice a year for someone is nice easy work.

I advertise gutter cleaning. When the season is busy it's hard to give priority to a gutter cleaning. People never want to pay more than $100 or less. But as the season dies out I need it. Its like a catch 22. Suggestions anyone?

I set my pick up truck with a cold water machine and a hose real my attentions are to just go door knocking to see who wants their gutters blown out for 100 bucks, however they can clean up the mess on the ground. LOL. thats how I ALWAYS clean gutters.

Are those really small houses?

I've been cleaning out gutter systems out for years.  We clean gutters until it freezes outside and have other services to rely on for revenue.

Although I can rationalize with your thinking, you should not sell yourself so short guys or EVER let the customer be responsible for cleaning up a mess you created (even if its fair).

Why? Though it appears "fair" for both parties, you just set your services value. Trying to up-sell from that point is difficult if you already barter a "deal" with them. We don't just blow out the gutters, but offer inspections, repairs, up-selling on gutter accessories as well as downspout installation. Winter time is a great time to think outside the box guys. Not every house is the same, so it would be highly unprofitable for us to go out and offer a fixed-rate just to stay busy.  There's also many ways to clean out gutters and with that, various rates and results.

We cleaned 1 roof and 2 home's gutter systems yesterday and $580 was just gutter cleaning.  Not great, but not bad for gutters since its a low-overhead service with a  high profit margin.

have you heard of Ned Stevens?

he only charges 120.00 for an average two story home and he is a huge gutter cleaning Co. he covers like 5 States or something.

I don't know how our champ Power House does it.

No worries at all Clyde, just my two cents for what it's worth to ya pal.

The economy is down and people just are not spending like they used too (not that I blame them) and I'm feeling it too. 

Hell, you've prob been doing this way longer than me anyhow and know everything that's already going to come out of my mouth before I say it like Pat here does.  LOL!

My problem is I have very few guys on these forums of this caliber from my area to relate to yet?

Does anyone know what size nozzle that I could use on an air pump to mist the gutters with chemical and not waste a lot of chemical. In the past I have used a automatic back -pack sprayer. The air pump that I have will work fine with a low orfice nozzle.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I use a little bleach, gutterzap and water in an SP handheld sprayer. It shoots a good distance.
