Hello to Everyone!

My name's Amy and I found this forum about a month or so ago. My father and I have been wanting to get into the roof-cleaning business for sometime, so we've been researching as much as possible. We're both passionate about doing hands on work and the benefits of working for yourself. I've found this site to be so helpful in figuring out exactly what we need to do in order to be a responsible and ethical, environmentally safe business.

We're shooting to start working for spring 2010, but it's hard because I'm really the only one who has time to dedicate to research and planning. We've been looking into every aspect we can...researching what cleaning and application products to use, setting up insurance, getting registered and basically doing everything above board. I know that we still have many things to learn and I want to thank everyone here for being so insightful with all the information, and putting it out there for the people who can really benefit from it.

I have so many questions for you all, but I'm going to wait til I've exhausted every single search on here so I don't just pelt you with all the usual newbie-issues smile
The only question I would like to ask for the time being, is about training or apprenticeship programs any of you, as individuals, might help with. I was just wondering if there was anyone that wouldn't mind me tagging along on jobs for maybe a week, to pick your brains on your expertise and get experience actually in the field. I know this might be a bit presumptuous, and I do apologize for that, but I feel it's better to act first, apologize later in this case.biggrin I'm willing to travel in order to gain as much experience as I can before I venture into the unknown with my dad.

But that aside, thank you all again, just for creating this site to help others obtain this priceless knowledge. And know that you're making a difference to people like me, who are looking to start working for themselves!

Amy

Thanks for all the feedback everyone! I knew when I started looking at this site that I'd finally found the right place for starting my own roof cleaning business and the right people to look to for advice. Hopefully I'll be able to pass on the same once I get established.

Bill, I'll definitely be looking to you for some questions in the not too distant future, it's nice to meet other people who have gone through some of the same issues! Lori, thanks for the offer of help as well...it'll be nice to get your take on all of this biggrin

I'm really looking forward to doing Labor for Learning! I've always found the best way to learn a new trade, or perfect another...is just to immerse yourself in it entirely...thank you all so much for your help and I can't wait til I get this up and running!

Amy

(Lol, and if anyone else has a question about my profile pic...it's a drive-through wildlife preserve where you feed the animals from your car, it's up in Northwestern Ohio. My sister thought it'd be cute to take a picture of me bonding with the animals!)
