Football Season Is Almost Here!

The start of the NFL season is almost here! I'm a huge football fan. My Sundays are about to be consumed by football! I have even converted my wife into a football fan. Hell, I even caught her watching preseason football by herself the other day. It just goes to show you that if you smother somebody with something for long enough, they will eventually start to like it wink!

I am pretty pathetic. I will admit it! I have been playing fantasy football for about 7 years now. I've even made it to our super bowl 3 times. I did lose twice to a female bleh. Since starting this fantasy football gig, I now find myself really enjoying watching every football team play.

My team is the Philadelphia Eagles. Yes, I know, the team that hired the dog killer. I can't lie, I'm excited to see how they use him this year! I don't know if anyone has every heard him speak to the media when he didn't have his speach rehearsed, but it is pretty comical! He kind of reminds me of a skit on the TV show In Living Color (The Wayans Brothers Show). They used to have a skit where they tried to say a bunch of big fancy words and they would always mispronounce them and used them in the wrong context. That is Michael Vick to a tee! He almost makes you think he is doing it on purpose to be funny, but that is not the case. I have to watch every time he speaks because you just never know what he is going to say. Priceless!

I have had Eagles season tickets for 12 years now. We (there are usually about 10 -12 of us) leave at about 7:30 or 8:00am for the home games and have a huge tailgate party. We have two large tents, tables, grill, stove, and griddle to make our tailgate feast. We usually bring a radio, TV, Bocci Ball, Horseshoes and a football for entertainment. Of course you can't forget the beer. It wouldn't be a tailgate party without the red Solo Cups full of beer. In PA you can't have opened containers of alcohol so you have to use Solo Cups.

Anyhow, I hope everyone enjoys watching the Eagles dominate the NFC this year as much as I will. I'm sure this will start some controversy aww.

Maybe someone can go to footballfrenzyonline.com and start a football picks pool for members of RCIA. I'm a Rams fan, OK stop laughing. We won 2nd place in the draft last year.

OK, you twisted my arm....

I created a suicide pool for anyone from the RCIA that is interested in joining. If you are not familiar with a suicide pool, this is how it works.

* You pick 1 team & 1 team only for week 1 of the NFL season that you think is going to win.

*If that team wins, you continue to play the following week. If that team loses, you are out of the suicide pool.

*If you are still in for the second week, you pick another team that you think will win during week 2 of the NFL season. The catch is.... You cannot pick the same team you did the previous week. You have to pick a different team each week. Once you chose a team one time, you cannot pick them again for the whole season.

* This process keeps up until there is only one person left in the pool.

It doesn't cost any money to join the pool. It is just for bragging rights. I would make it a money pool if everyone wanted to, but we really don't have any way to collect money easily and store it.

You really don't have to know much about football to play. The more people that join the better. Let's have some fun!

Here is how you join:

Create a free account.

Click "Last Man Standing Pool" on the left hand side of the site.

A league search page will come up.

Type in RCIA Suicide Pool for the name of the league

Click on "All Leagues Public and Private"

Click Search Leagues

Click View when you see the league come up

Click Join League

Enter the password roofcleaner

Click Confirm Join League

Then you will be taken to the picks screen. That is where you will go every week to make your pick. If you miss a week, you are automatically out of the pool.
