hey guys been using the search button but cant turn any specific info up on what im after...
i am going to use a roof harness because there a lot of 2 and 3 story homes in my area...
what do you guys use as roof anchors because i dont want to install permanent anchors on tile or metal roofs because it damages the roof plus they are very costly and wouldnt be financially viable...
what are some options as an anchor point for my harness...
???
temporary anchors, rope anchors???

Are these roofs too high to reach with a ladder? If you can reach them with a ladder, you don't need to get on them. Get your set up down with the spray nozzles, hoses and pump and you will be able to reach most any point of the roof from your ladder. It is much safer to do it from the ladder than it is to walk on a steep slippery roof.

I prefer to shoot from the edge of the roof but it's not always possibe especially when a roof has a complex build too it i.e lots of hidden eaves etc.

Shooting from the top actually tends to send more overspray to the ground than shooting from the ladder. Trust me, you will see it when you start using it.
Also Caleb, I just read your bio, very cool. May I ask what is the External Cleaning Industry Association?
I would suggest if you can not use a valley to put your ladder at on a two story and it is real high pitch than stand on the ladder, if your worried about over spray make sure you have a ground guy on that side. When I am on the ladder I always make sure my ground guy is on the side of the house I am spraying so he can keep things wet, also use tarps if needed.
The ground guy is an important part of roof cleaning, he is your eyes on the ground when your cleaning the roof, plus if you needed to climb on a roof that is two story's high use the valley of the roof to get where you need to and have a good pair of rubber sole shoes and have your guy hold the ladder for you when getting on and off the roof.
One issue you will have with ropes and harnesses also is if you get bleach on them it will weaken or dry then out and that also can lead to a rope snapping on you, I hope this helps.
yeah man the ECIA is an Australian association....we dont actually have an specialist roofing associations over here so i joined the ECIA....also the provide great training on efficient water use etc...
also when trained by these guys in Australia you get a government authorised sticker saying it is safe to use water during water restrictions etc....its good for business

That's cool!! I need a sticker like that for US-Maryland Got a web link for them?? I would love to check it out and it might help some of the other members here from Australia too.
Good call on the rope getting eaten James. You might have just saved a roof cleaners life?? Take what this man says to heart. Be very very careful of what SH will do to ropes, rubber and fabric ratchet straps.
I respect everyones opinion here but I strongly feel that there is a place for safety regarding tie offs and harness in the roof cleaning industry. A rope should not break if you follow correct protocol and inspect safety equipment before each use. That should be standard operating procedure. If we all follow these common sense procedures we will save our own lives every time. The rope I have is 8.5mm professional climbing rope (other hobby) and I have yet to see SH even touch it and I have spot tested it with 12.5%. The correct equipment is available. I don't go climbing roofs unless I have too but there are cases where I will have to get up on them and the tile roofs down here are slick as heck. Much more than shingle roofs of equal pitch. It's not feasable to shoot every job from the ladder and blows the costs sky high in some cases to get a lift. Just my 2 cents.

I agree with you Nick. There are defiently times where roping up is beneficial and safety wise a very responsible thing to do. I have my sprayer rope up everytime he gets on a roof. Spraying from the roof simply does not work for bigger homes and commercial buildings. Its just not feasible for a roof thats 40 feet off the ground. I like seeing what im doing, not guessing and i think its easier to get on the roof if possible.
