Do you guys spray much from the gutter line as opposed to actually getting on and walking the roof? Assuming the pump can reach, would it be preferable to shoot from the gutter?
Your thoughts are always appreciated.

I am finding that most roofs around here are 12/8 pitch and I am not getting on those. Loose granules are like trying to stand on a floor covered with ball bearings. I have not had a peak I couldn't reach. If the roof is walkable then I walk. I use less mix this way. Less run off also. It just comes down to whatever you are comfortable with walking.
Simple rule of thumb is: If the mix will roll down the roof with relative ease, then shoot from the roof edge and let gravity work for you. If the mix will not readily run down and cover the roof, then chances are it's safe enough to walk,...with caution of course. Get a pump that will shoot with a degree of PSI,...to especially accomodate for breezy conditions.
I walk roof whenever I can. But then again I started out cleaning gutters from the roof and not a ladder and found out it is faster to walk a roof. BUT if you do not feel comfortable walking then spray from ladder. Use all safety gear you can when doing it either way.

I work from the gutter line as much as possible especially on the two story houses. Single story houses that are walkable i walk, but dont really need to since my pump sprays pretty far.
I use the fatboy and love walking the roof if possible with a 50x15 (1550) nozzel but if I have to shoot love from the gutter line I use a 60x00 (0060) nozzel. I also find I have less run off and use less love walking a roof. Love doing the ranch homes,
I will have to say the fatboy makes it all pretty easy and fast to do a roof so shooting from gutter edge is no big deal I would like to find a quick trigger gun though. Love the ball valve but their is times I need to shut down fast, any suggestions ?

I prefer to walk, for one simple reason: When spraying from the ground or gutter line, it can be a major PITA reaching those areas right at where the shingles meet the gutters. It never fails to spray the mix on the gutters, which splashes around and causes us to water more, thus taking more time to finish. When walking, I can pretty much control the spray around that area with little to no overspray.
I would have to say that 90% or more of the Roof Cleanings we do are all walkable. We do however run into a few that are way too steep and slippery and have to be shot from the Roof edge. Here is a Tile Roof we Cleaned awile back. Another Roof Cleaning company in my area actually called me to finish it after they realized that they couldn't walk it. We were able to shoot it from the Roof Edge and it Cleaned up real nice.
