So i did the rest of my business partners house today and i noticed that while spraying the roof it didn't turn white like most of the pictures i have seen on here. We are using A Delavan 5850 pump, 100' of 5/8 hose with 3/4 end fittings, ball valve with power washer tips. (tried all 4 tips only change was how far it shot) Mix was 4 Gal Sh, 12 gal H2O, 28 oz of regular Dawn, and 16oz of 70% alcohol.

I agree with Jeff. I think your mix was way to weak for any Roof. 12gals of water to 4gals of mix is way too weak. Try a 60 -40 Mix. The 60 being 12%. 40 being water. Providing your not using 6% store bought bleach.

I think what Larry meant to say is backwards.
40% 12.5% SH
60% Water
Using store bought bleach, using the mix Larry posted would work.
Lets see if I cant make this simple...In a 100 gal tank I normally start with 60gals of 12.5% SH and 40gals of H2o.
If I feel that I can go with a little weaker mix I start adding more water to my tank. Gotta remember that 97% of the Roof Cleanings I do are all Tile Roofs that are usually infested with Black Mold and need a stronger Mix.
For Shingle Roofs I may start with a 50/50 mix and add more water once I start if I can get away with it.
Also something else to keep in mind. I don't mind using a little more 12.5% . I only pay .98 per gallon for it.

This was my original post. I thought that this was a pretty clear description. No? Yes?
WOW $.98/gallon! I pay more than double that and I'm sure it is not as fresh as what you use.
I also forgot that you are cleaning tile roofs down there. I think I can count on one hand how many tiles roofs I have seen up here. They just don't use it much here. I do see a bit of slate, but they are usually older Victorian style homes.

Larry's mix will definitly show you some results!! I use that much dawn in a 40 gallon mix if the roof isn't really steep, try half that in a 20 gallon mix, unless it isn't sticking.
Were your tips large orafice ?? like 30 or higher?
It is strong Mike. Like I was saying, that's what I normally start out with and I add water to it if I can get away with it. Some of the Tile Roofs we do down here have been neglected by the H/O's and haven't been Cleaned in 8-10 or even more years and are charcoal black. Even with the mix that strong we still have to do spot hitting or in some cases even a second coat. I just like to get in, get done, get paid and get out. I also find that using a stronger mix on certain Roofs it seems to last longer.
Here is a prime example of what we are up against sometimes.
50-50, holy!!! if you are rinsing look out for the grass or shrubs or any live veg...i rinsed last week on a roof my mix was a 40 gal : 25 water 15 sh 6pound tsp 64 IPA oz 56 dawn it burned the grass pretty bad. i should had let the water hoses run longer a the downspout typical green horn mistake.
More salt = longer lasting hostile enviroment for Gloecapsa magma growth, makes good sense. But watch for that salt burn on the grass if your rinsing or new, a light rain can cause problems by causing salt shock to plants. Just putting that out there for those of you still gathering ideas. Larry has years of experience, playing with that powerfull love in Florida.
Bill is right. You have to be very very careful when applying it that strong. Don't get me wrong, I've made my share of boo boo's in the past. I've burned up entire hedge rows, burned up grass and plants, splattered overspray on new paint and trim and not gotten paid for doing the job etc... The key to ANY Roof Cleaning with Zero or minimal damge issues is having a good ground person and watering, watering, watering... on both live vegitation and exterior walls.
They are some good looking roof cleanings down in Palm Harbor Florida! It is amazing how nice those tile roofs clean up. When we clean our asphalt shingle roofs in Pennsylvania, they look night and day different, but nothing compares to a severely neglected tile roof like the ones you just posted!

I would have used 6 gal 12.5%SHC to 12 gal H2O about 10 to 14 oz of Dawn depending on how steep the roof and 8 oz of Alcohol. Did you spray the roof on a hot sunny day? Sometimes on hot roofs the Love seems to start drying up as soon as it hits the roof. If the roof is hot, water it down to cool it off before you spray Love on it.
I normally use 1 part SHC to 2 parts H2O unless a really dirty roof.

Thanks Brian. Trust me we have to earn our $ down here on most Roof Cleanings. Thats not to say you guys don't. Heck I wouldn't want to have to deal with some of the moss issues I've seen pics of.
Some of the ones we do are not as bad and we go lighter on the love potency and add more water but for the most part we keep it strong. Remember, there is alot more runnoff when Cleaning a Tile Roof so you want it to work as soon as it is hitting the Tile. Here are a few more pictures. LOL...I've got sooo many before and afters I could probably sit here all day and do this. Hahaha! ( don't worry. I won't.)
larry, Got to love the single story roofs. those pictures are great. great job on those lite colored roofs. oh yeah the other roofs look good too.LOL!!
