ok well the shc is hot in general then you added the alcohol then dawn it might have made it more suceptable to heat.

Try adding your water first to the shc-2gallons, 2 gallons of water. then about a half hour before you get to your job mix in the alcohol and dawn. the dawn actually breaks the shc down.

Hahaha! That is the first time I have ever heard of Roof Cleaning mix boiling. Y'all better be careful when playing with the SH and alchohol. Myself, I don't use it. I can't stand the fumes and I'm sure as heck not a big fan of things that can go Ka Boom. disbelief

First of all, what is "demoit"?

Second, NEVER add the chemicals SH and Alcohol alone, especially with TSP or BORAX.

Third, if you are mixing up SAUCE, CIDER or CIDER SAUCE hybrid...always add water FIRST, then your TSP after you have completely dissolved it in HOT water and stirred very well into a complete solution, not powder at the bottom of the 5 gal. bucket.

Then RIGHT before the job is to be done or as close to doing the actual spraying as possible, add the Sodium Hypochlorite and stir well or recirculate if you have a pump that allows for that, and then ADD the surfactant (DAWN or AJAX).

DO NOT USE Any anti-microbial soap EVER, and stay away from the ULTRA DAWN, use regular ONLY.

What you did can be DANGEROUS?

Can you say extreme CHEMICAL BURNS?

Be careful guys!

Please Read the RCIA board in the chemical application and delivery section and don't just read some and say oh well, I R a roof KLEENR and then play chemical engineer on the job site.

Test all your theories by asking questions AFTER you have read your AZZ off here on the #1 roof cleaning website in the world.

We built this and answered most all the possible questions.....

We have the answers and the SEARCH feature on this site works very well if more would use it to its FULL potential.

Like everyone said, start with water first, then add chemical

1 liter of alcohol is way too much for a 5 gallon mix.

You only need 8 ounces to a 5 gallon mix.

32 ounces for a 20 gallon mix or 64 ounces for a 40 gallon mix.

If you are using a pump sprayer for a demo, you are probably lucky you didn't have an accident with that mix. That really was way too much alcohol.

I don't mix cider or cider sauce in a pump up just because of the pressure that builds up. If you are not careful, it will EXPLODE!

Imagine if you didn't get that phone call and you put that mix in a sealed container right away. If it started "boiling" in a sealed container, the pressure would eventually find a way out. That is how you have an accident like this....

http://www.sptimes.com/2004/01/17/Hillsborough/Worker_severely_burne.shtml

This one was as a result of acid residue in the tank, but it was still a very large build up of pressure that caused this accident.

Like Dave said, make sure you read, read, read. Knowledge is power, but just a little info can be dangerous!

regarding the spray tanks exploding. I picked up a sprayer that has a pressure release valve at LOWE'S for about $20. I am not using this on a regular basis by any means but if you do use a sprayer make sure to get one with a pressure release valve

I like the demo idea, but I sold the last 9 roofs I did over the phone with bing maps against competitors, all with simple photos in an e-mail, a copy of my guarentee, and the arma bulletin. If you are just learning the mix, I would wait till next year to start demos and work on your pitch in the meantime. I do them as well but not for every job, only on the "tough sells". We did 3 roofs yesterday, 2 from internet bid and one next door neighbor. Remember the best demo is the roof you are getting paid to clean. Talk to everyone that can see it, before you leave the job. If they are in the yard, talk to them before you start. Signs and cards and demos are all great, but nothing will ever beat your sales pitch...your pitch should be your main focus in selling your job. Tell them you are the best and that you are trained by elite proffesionals.

Just thought I would put some sales ideas in hear since your probably tired of getting yelled at for almost killing yourself. Good luck brother and be carefull!! Just joking with you don't get mad, everyone hear just wants to see people be safe.

Hi and Welcome KAN, please fill out your name and signiture so we can know you a little better. Use the search tool at the top of the page to find apple cider, and read the RCIA rules also found through the search.
