I'm thinking that a trolling motor uses more power than a fatboy would and my batteries would last 8 hrs or more with a good charge with my trolling motor running almost constantly.

Hard to say ? I am sure there is a formula for amp draw vs time ? Back when we used those 12 volt pumps, we always re charged the battery every 2 days or so.
No reason to ever need to charge. Tie your battery into your trailer electrical grid, and it will charge from the truck whenever the trailer is attached. Haven't charged the battery in 5 months.
Thanks for the input guys, its a new battery but i was charging it fast and I think it was dying fast, did a slow charge like you said Chris and it was strong all day today, can`t say I have ever heard of that Scott , I will for sure check into that

Hey KID, when you fast charge a battery it heats up faster. When this happens it does not take a charge the same as if you slow, or trickle charged it. Heat is the enemy of both the 12v pump and the battery. The more you fast charge a battery the less life you will get from it (actual charge/discharge cycles) Sometimes it is necessary to fast charge, but it is always better to slow charge. One of my long time customers is a battery wholesale business. I talked with one of the salesmen 2 weeks ago for 2 hrs. about the different batteries for 12v pumps. Chris
I have my pumps wired to my trailer as well , I have never had to charge my battery since the install . You should really look into it it was a great improvement for me, while I am driving to the next job my truck charges my battery
Is there a particular brand that you would recommend ?
I do not think that I can get a good charge from my trailer/ truck hook up because I disconnect the trailer periodically which doesn't give me long charge time.
Would I be better off to have 2 batteries, run 1 down then flip to the other one ?
I could then charge a battery completely

I only hook up in the mornings, drive to the jobs and usually have to leave for something and dont hook it back up until the end of each job. I unhook overnight as well, anddo not have to charge it.

Same here. Mine has been on my rig for almost a year and I have never charged it. My truck does it for me.
I have two that I rotate. When one finally dies, I am going to wire the good one into the trailer harness with the exception that I'm putting a breaker in between so it's not charging all the time. I use a deep cycle battery and these work better when they are discharged almost to the point of no power before they are charged up again. The breaker will let me turn the charge on and off when needed.

How is this done?
I have a enclosed trailer with a 7way hook up for the electric. I have an extra wire coming off the 7 way. Can i run that wire stright to the battery?
I would look up the wiring diagram for your make/model of vehicle and it will show you the "hot" wire to run to your battery.
I would not use alligator clips, use the wire connector with bolt, washer and nut to connect to the battery.
Use a large marine battery so it will give you a long life and lots of juice for doing what you want to do.
I have been wanting to do this myself, I don't use a 12 volt delavan, just electric hose reel for my water supply hose on the pressure washing trailer. Just have not got around to finishing it.

YES! Thats how mine is set up. Just make sure you put a seperate fuse link after the battery. My wire runs under my truck to my ball hitch area where I use a welders conector. When I hook up my trailer all I do is snap the connector together and it is charging my battery. Here is the type of connector I use.
