Ok I have your answer H2O. The pump you are using is rated at 80-100psi at 15 cfm. It seems you were pushing 100psi at 16 cfm and this is riding the max or above. There are a few things that will prevent this in the future. Add a second air flow regulator at the pump set to a maximum of 85 psi. (dual redundant regulator set up) This way if the first regulator off the air compressor fails or is misadjusted, then the second one becomes a fail-safe. Check that your operating pressure is staying at the # you set even when the trigger is not open. When you are spraying the pressure may drop, but if it spikes to 100-120 when you are not spraying (deadhead position) this can be a problem.

Another thing you need is a moisture trap at the pump. You can find these on ebay for 10-25$$. The reason for this is so that no oil, moisture or chlorine gas enters the pumps diaphragm which will ruin it. Get one with a clear float so you can see when it needs emptied or replaced. DO NOT oil your pump diaphram this will also ruin it.

Also, these pumps can be run dry, but if they are run dry constantly for long periods of time, this may also cause excessive wear or damage.

Keep your air compressor intake in a position that will not be sucking up chlorine gas near your chemical tank. This Chlorine gas will ruin your air tank, hoses and regulators.

The psi regulation along with any moisture/oil that entered the diaphragm is what ruined your pump. These solutions will fix your problem.

Just FYI, these problems can be avoided by future rig builders, by posting what you are building as you build it. Then the pros here can catch any mistakes you may be making in your build. i just bought a yamada kynar ndp15 clean 10 roofs with it now it needs a complete rebuild i was told by the saleman that i can run it @100psi all day long with no problems now im being told i can only run it @80psi continuious 100psi in short term i was wondering if any one can tell me what psi should i be running this pump @ i use a emglo compressor that puts out 16cfm@90psi i just dont want to run into this problem again i was forced to buy a 12volt pump from northern tools and plum it in reel quick just to finish the job i would greatly appreciate any advice im pretty new to roof cleaning and cant afford to make to many mistakes

We have run that pump with an 18 CFM compressor at 100 psi with NO problems.
With THAT amount of  CFM there should be no reason to run at 100 PSI ?
We ran the pump up there at 100 psi  to intentionally torture it.
Something ELSE must have been wrong ?
Sounds like oil/water getting into the pump ?
Please let us know what you found wrong when you rebuild the pump ?

 

when we opened it up it there was oil and water in it and the main seal was swolen so bad that it wouldnt even go back together kinda tells me that i was running to much pressure but i didn't know that the oil would hurt the pump to

I'm starting to build my rig and appreciated the dual air flow regulator idea.  Also the moisture trap at the pump.  I'll integrate them into my rig.  Thanks.
