Hey guys i've been reading the rcia for a while now  have learned alot and want to thank everyboby for the help. I would be cleaning roofs with surface cleaners and low pressure if i didn't find this web site so thank you everybody. That being said i've done several roof now and i feel like im doing something wrong ,i think i am using way to much chemical to clean a roof just did two barrel tile roofs. Houses were 2800sqft plus 3car garage with a prety steep pitch i charged $500 for each roof but i went through 300 gallons of apple cider each roof was very black and took 3 coats to come clean ,the chemical was drying  ten minutes after hiting the roof. Is this to much chemical for two dirty roofs or normal

Jeeese! apple salad , fruit salad, pear juice..., peaches and cream LOL

You have the right stuf. SHC Mix it 1 to 1.. 5 gals of SHC to 5 gal of water.....

<5 will get you 10>.....300gal on one roof?????

<5 water + 5 gal of SHC> On siding and stucco you can go 2 to 1 or even 3 to 1...

Hey, and if you want fruit drop some strawberries in your mix!  Just kidding....

That is the proper mix.......Cover your plants and if you still have black streaks or brown streaks  applicate again real quick.

The key is getting enough chemical on the roof to do the job. Killing the algae!

If your black roof starts turning brown it means you are heading in the right dirrection and winning the battle.  T

here is no law that says you can't spray more SHC upon a roof twice...

Usually the second time is just a spot spray for areas that need to be hit with a little more LOVE!

You have the Love! (SHC)  Why turn it into a fruit salad! The only thing I add to my SHC is a surfactant and water.....

I do not have tile roofs here. The most I have used is 70 gallons on 3200 sq. ft.

The drying, maybe too much ISP ?? Alchohol

Maybe the roof is hot???, you can cool it with water first.

I think you got it James, has to be too much other ingredients in his solution.

ISP, TSP and surfacant all weaken the main ingredient SHC

The "problem" is the NP 9 surfactant I think, OR weak SHC.
ONLY use NP 9 if you HAVE to ?
It will RUIN your mix in a NY Second if not used correctly.

TELL us how you mixed stuff up ?

Sounds like you have stale SH . To test your SH pour some between your fingers if it turns white right away & as you rub it,it gets slimmy like glue you got some great stuff. This test takes about 10 secs.

What ever mix you are using Dwell Time is important. SHC has about a two hour kill ratio. After that it reverts back to its natural state... Salt Water...

Just maybe instead of all that other stuff you add to your solution, mix in smaller quantities at 1 to1 on roofs. (SHC and water)...  5gal of SHC to 5 gal water.

I usually make a 30 gal batch at a time... Really and in between I can take a bonified smoke break while adding  15 gal of water to the 15 gal of SHC.

two hours would be nice but with temps in the 90s rite now it can be tough to keep it wet for 10 min i tried weting the roof with water first like someone sugested earlier but it didn't make a difrence is there anything i can add to help keep it wet a little longer or so it has more time to dwell

Usually the addition of basic dish soap will aid in staying wet longer.
But, you're easiest solution is to simply start earlier in the day.

I was wondering if starting when there is dew on the roof helped or hurt the process.

We normally try to wait until the dew burns off. Most all of the Tile Roof Cleaning we do is done from the top. ( we walk them) These can be a bit slippery when covered in morning dew. The moisture will also prevent the Roof Cleaning mix from doing its job as well and more material will more than likely be needed verses applying it to a dry Tile Roof. Shingle Roofs don't seem to be so much of a problem as Tile Roofs.

Again, you either got some old/weak SHC  and the NP 9 is KILLING your mix !!
I gallon NP 9 is enough for 300 gallons mix !
You are using 1 gallon per 100 gallons mix!
WAY too much.

Lol, I am glad you found the solution. 2 much np9?? Remember that your fresh SH only has a 1-1.5 month shelf life as well.
