Don't know if anyone has seen this yet but if someone is trying to not buy our services because they are going to coat the shingles you can hit them with this ARMA bulletin.

Thanks for the info. Customers are afraid of loosing their warentee. This can be a good selling tool against a co. that claims to have a roof coating to prevent the algae from coming back.

ONE Day, the RCIA will be listed as the Organization that will be referred to BY THE INDUSTRY for CORRECT Roof Cleaning, Preservation and Treatment PROCEDURES and will have ARMA's blessing.

I am working on implementing this NOW biggrin

This will be Of HUGE BENEFIT to ALL

PLEASE Note:

To give credit where credit is due, Mike of Roof Rejuvenators mentioned this in a visionary discussion on the phone today with me.

It has been something I have been putting on the back burner but he brought it, the idea, matriculating up again to the surface of my thoughts on this subject.

I began drafting a letter this evening to ARMA but will not send it until I have had several key members review it.

I believe if anyone can get it done Dave it will be you. And you're right, if we had an ARMA bulletin with our organization listed as the preferred contractors and even the website, it would a SERIOUS huge advantage.

We shall see how we approach this, carefully I am sure.

Approached wrong could be a setback.

I need to see who all the players are, and who are the controlling interests and WHO the decision makers and gate keepers are.

Compiling this research will take a little time.

I am sure to make headway eventually and one day it will be a reality.

I am going to have to print a copy to keep in my truck.

It will come in handy in the future.
Thanks

Keeping several printed copies in my truck of manufactures guidelines such as this one provides credibility to skeptical prospect and helps me close new business.  It is a great sales tool to have.

This is an important document to have printed up and taken to each job bid.

As it stands right now, those who offer such treatments, do so at our expence.

Their major advertising campaign is to downgrade the use of chlorine on roofs.

Of course, all the manufacturers say the same thing "USE CHLORINE"

None suggest any other chemical and none suggest any spray on etc treatments.

This PDF will be with me & added to all of my online advertising from here on!

We may not be able to counter their misinformation about our roof cleaning system, by using their business name in public - maybe?, but we can do what they do, speak of the chemicals and methods etc, only with actual proof and links!

This PDF and all the manufacturer links, that show, what the "Go Green" and "after cleaning roof treatment" guys say, prove that their claims are just false advertising and their products, may be damaging to roofing!

Here's more info, if you care to use it in your websites, blogs and other advertising.

Below are the only manufacturer suggested chemicals I have been able to find on any manufacturer website, bulliten, etc. Now, I will be adding this one!

From GAF Roofing Manufacturers about black algae removal:

http://www.gaf.com/Documents/Algae_Staining_on_Shingled_Roof_Surfaces_-_Steep_Slope_Techn-43-808-v3.pdf

Below is a partial "cut and paste" excerpt from GAF Roofing Manufacturers on how to clean a roof:

"If a new roof is not an option, GAF recommends cleaning the roof with a special mixture. That mixture is:
4 gallons of water, 1 gallon of bleach and 1 cup of TSP"

"What NOT To Do! Do not power wash the shingles to clean the shingles. Some roof cleaning companies offer this service.
However, it is not recommended."

From ARMA roofing manufacturers Association-how to clean roofing.

http://www.asphaltroofing.org/pdf/tb_217.pdf

Below is a partial excerpt cut and pasted below from ARMA:

Algae discolorations to remove from roofing surfaces, applying a solution of
chlorine bleach, trisodium phosphate, and water. Solutions for these ingredients depend on the amount of discoloration. Solutions range to one cup TSP and 2.5 gallons each of bleach and water.
First, gently disperse this solution on the roofing surface. Avoid scrubbing the surface, as this friction may loosen and remove granules.
Caution!
High pressure washing systems for algae removal should not be used.

Owens Corning Roofing manufacturers says the same thing:

"USE CHLORINE and TSP" "DO NOT USE A PRESSURE WASHER"

Corning info in link below.

This is a great compilation of material. I will absolutely print out and keep all these documents in one folder. By having all these references, there is no disputing the methods used by RCIA. I had a few of these from last years research, but it's great to add more references to my portfolio package, thank you.
