Im going to invest in a fatboy in the next few weeks. My little pump has been acting up and I want to upgrade to something a little better. I will be shopping around for the best price. I have a Northern tool near by so Ill see what they have

Wow ! They do have a 24 hr answering service since they have many west coast customers. Guess it beats working to 11pm est ? I have sent several people there who call me about roof cleaning pumps like the Delavan Fat Boy w/o any incidents. Except when they call me back to thank me for how much money they are making
I think it is a good idea to TRY and buy your stuff LOCAL if you can ? I encourage folks who call me to shop the mail order suppliers first. Get some prices - then ask the local guy to match or come CLOSE to the "Mail Order Superstores" ? At 4 pm on a Friday when your Delavan craps out and you have roofs to do that weekend - it is nice to call your local guy and go get a pump ? Kinda beats waiting until Monday or Tuesday to get your pump ?
Here in the Tampa Bay Area - we are "blessed" with some local supply houses that can match or BEAT many "mail order super stores" when given the chance.
It is ALWAYS a good idea IMHO to "spread it around" a liittle bit by buying from different places ?
If any ONE company is allowed to DOMINATE the Roof and Pressure Cleaning Industry it is NOT good
AND TO TOP IT OFF HE SAID SHIPPING WOULD BE ABOUT $12-$15 , WHEN I GET THE INVOICE HE CHARGED $22 FOR SHIPPING AND $9.99 FOR HANDLING WHICH I STOPPED THOUGH MY CREDIT CARD

OUCH
Here is what I do.
I CALL these places - and I PLAY one against the other I agree - if you just take the prices and shipping/handling off the web site - you can do better.
Lori over at Pressure Washer Products told me the other day that they are now selling Delevan Pumps for Roof Cleaning. Great prices also. Give her a call and see how her prices compare. 727-562-5488------1-800-519-9279----727-449-1559

Pressure Tek has always come through for me when it comes to delivery turn around time. Bob sold me my FATBOY and for a 12 volt system it rock in rolls. Just make sure you purchase a large Deep cell Marine battery as it is thursty for amps. Currently I am using a 750 amp purchased from Costco for $70 bucks.
You ever use Sur-Flow Pumps? They last at least a season and a half.
What do you think about them?

Up until recently all I ever used was Sureflow Pumps for Roof Cleaning. The last one I bought only lasted me 2 months. I found out that Sureflow started out sourcing their work to China and that cheaper parts were being used. I also found out from my local distributor that I was not the only one having this problem. I was given another Pump and they repaired my old one. A month later the new one went out in the middle of doing 2 Roof Cleanings. I threw on the rebuilt one and it only worked for the next few Roof Cleanings. Again I had it fixed and as of last week it went down again. They still have my Sureflow (being repaired) but this time I bought a Flow Jet. Much cheaper too! I've used it on 3 Roof Cleanings so far to test it out and it is running fine. I always run at least 5gals of water through my Pumps when I'm done but lately they just don't last...

I stopped using 12 volt roof cleaning pumps awhile ago. But the Flojet I found WAY better then the NEW Shurflo's.
Good for Lori ,I spoke to her two weeks ago about carrying Delavan mostly for the guys just starting out, she said she would talk to her dad , well i guess dad said ok
OK. Now I am further confused. I am about to buy the Fatboy from Bob @ Pressure Tek who has the opinion the 1/2" is the way to go. I understand the math involved in Mikes post here and it makes sense to me but from reading all of the posts there are several guys getting good results from smaller hose sizes. Pressure Tek has two kits available...
http://www.pressuretek.com/co12vose.html
with the Fatboy. One in 1/2" and one in 5/8". I am inclined to go with the 5/8" but am wondering if I should ask him if he has a 3/4" available. Does anyone have opinions on additions or substitutions to this kit that I should consider?
I was told to buy the pump only and not the entire kit. I went and got 3/4" garden hose and 3/4" ball valves with an adapter to connect to the end of the hose. All I bought from pressure tek was the nozzles. Found everything else locally. You can cut the hose and put your own ends on if you want. I also welded risers and those hanging hose brackets on the trailer like the ones you use at home to keep costs down at the moment. Will add reels later.
I bought the rubber hose not the vinyl as the sun will degrade vinyl hose faster.

Bob IS a Salesaman - LOL It IS cheaper and an easier sale to compromise pump performance with 1/2 in setup. But we assure you 5/8 is better and 3/4 better still ! Personally - my company uses 5/8. We feel it to be the best compromise between performance and size. But we use bigger pumps. 5/8 will work fine - but stay away from 1/2 is my advice.

Guys, To be on the safe side : Look at this chart in the link below and make SURE all PARTS for the FATBOY are SAFE and usable long term for roof cleaning chemical mixtures.
Well I used my Fatboy now for a little over one month and it just went out on a roof job today after running maybe 25 mins, I think the switch for the pump went out. I am now moving to a air diaghram pump, bye bye 12 volt pump and on with the air. I used the smaller delavan for years with no problems, the fatboy pumps good but did not last .
James, Sorry to here about the Fatboy Just curious what size hose are you using? Do you know what kind of amps you were pulling on the 12v. system? I am setting up a fatboy, and I am looking for some sort of heat sink for around the pump to help keep it cool to draw less amps. I will have an amp meter hard wired in, to keep an eye on the draw. Heat and higher amps will contribute to killing a pump. Thanks

I have never had much luck with any 12 volt roof cleaning pump. But we are a REAL roof cleaning Company that cleans many roofs in a day. Big ones too sometimes. It is my experience that a 12 volt pump is OK for someone doing 2 to 3 roofs a week. We discovered Air Diapraghm Pumps for roof cleaning by accident, out of Desperation! We had used everythingh else, and NOTHING was holding up.
I bought a Yamada and an air compressor, and it lasted an entire YEAR, slapped some new diapraghms in it, and it lasted another 6 months. It only died because we stopped rinsing it out, INTENTIONALLY.' I wanted to torture it. The Yamada NDP 15 FPS will last 6 months cleaning 6 days a week, 2 to 3 roofs a day. The Poly Body just can;t take not being rinsed out like our Kynar Yamada's can.
The Yamada's worked so well, I have had no reason to try other brands of these kinds of pumps.
Dave Westerman likes the All Flo pumps, and some here swear by the Versa Matic or Wildens, etc, etc.
It is VERY possible there is a better pump then the Yamada ?
But we have 5 Kynar Yamada's, so we are pretty set.
Was looking to buy another Delavan but i bought a Yamada nda15 fvt (new)on ebay for 119.00, picking up a 6.5hp honda Rol-air air compressor 13.1cfm almost new tomorrow for 450.00, soon i'll be seeing what its all about with the Big Boy Toys LOL
