Not being a millionaire like you guys, somtimes i kinda feel like Fred Sanford when i go out , i am using a delevan pump and the clear braid line that Bob up at pressure tek sold me, but what i didnt ask him about were quick couplers so i dont have to spend 10 minutes attaching hoses to the pump and the gun , so my question would be does any one have a good suggestion on the best couplers to use, and maybe a tip on a better setup other than the gun i am currently using (which started leaking after about the fifth roof) any help would be appreciated
Stainless quick couplers. There may be plastic ones, but I would be afraid of breaking them. And just get a PVC ball valve and adapt it down to accept a quick coupler or a nozzle. I personally prefer a short extension, like 12" piece of schedule 80. You should be able to just attach the hose to the pump with hose barbs. Should be no reason to have to attach and unattach at the pump. If you do need to do that those cheap plastic garden hose type quick coupler will work.

Like i said , am a little like Fred Sanford, when i wes setting everything up and buying equipment, the wife was diagnosed with cancer, before i was able to buy a trailer and set things up like i really wanted to, so the pump and battery gets put inside the pickup every time and the hoses get rolled up seperatly, Hose reels and a trailer are next in the budget, (as small as it is) so i have just been improvising up to this point, Thanks for the info, but one more question , will the brass hold up as well as the stainless ( i know only a couple bucks difference) but every penny counts right now
Yea the brass will be fine, just keep them rinsed out. I actually like to drop the ends of my hoses with coupler into a little water thingy I made from PVC pipe and an end cap. Keep them flushed with clean water is the key. Another little trick that works well is to add a little white vinegar to the water thingy, helps keep the metal from corroding from the effects of bleach. Really works well. Good luck to you and especially your wife. I always liked Sanford& Son. I still watch it on T.V. Land. You gotta do what you gotta do to make it work,..and coming here and getting answers is a great move!!
NONE of us came outta Momma cleaning roofs DirtEGator. We all had to crawl before we walked. Stick around, ask questions, and learn! Pretty soon, you will be a roof cleaning pro. I built Apple Roof Cleaning with a 5 by 8 trailer bought for 100.00 from a yard sale. I paid 25 dollars for a used 100 gallon tank, used plain old 5/8 garden hose, and a 12 volt roof cleaning pump ! I lived in a rented room for 2 years, pounded doors, put out flyers, no money for ads. Non Pressure Roof Cleaning was a hard sell back when I starrted 16 years ago. Stick to your dream, and dont quit until the miracle happens IF your dream ever starts to go away, get up real early, and LOOK at those fools driving to a job they are a SLAVE to, and hate I LOVE being my own Boss, and making in a day what the Slaves make in 2 weeks !!
While I have not acheived the same level of success that Mr. Apple has I have come a LONG way from cleaning roofs in Cleveland and Columbus Ohio with a 4 gal back pack sprayer. There is a lot of money to be made doing this the RIGHT way and this site is the best place to learn from others experiences and bypass alot of the trial and error phase.
Just some words of advice. For the connections for your electric pump, don't use the alligator clips, they will not pull enough juice and that will shorten the life of the pump.
If you have to, get the cheap battery connectors from the hardware store, Wal Mart, AutoZone, etc... and connect your wires to those so when you take the battery out, use those to connect the wires.
Also use 12 gauge wire or thicker, not thinnner. The thinner wire will not let enough juice go through and that will kill your pump sooner. That is where some people cut corners and that causes the pump motor to die sooner.

I do appreciate the words of encouragement guys, My wife has wanted to strangle me a feww time when it stretches into a week between jobs, and for the money i have spent for equipment, and for the fact that "her" pick-up has a 100 gallon tank in it, along with all the other things i carry, i am still optimistic, and the phone is actually starting to ring on it's own, from just the few customers i have done telling friends and the yellow page ad, now that she is feeling better, i can do more door to door stuff, things are looking up
I like to use Banjo poly fittings for the pump plumbing and into the stainless hose reel. Brass crimped fittings for the hose. Brass won't break under the weight of the hose like plastic will.
Spray with a Banjo poly 3/4" valve. PVC would also work good too, like Jeff said.
