Interesting thread. I'm sick of replacing my sureflow. Just finished up a job on Friday and noticed a decrease in PSI. Went and checked the pump and sure enough. Leaking all around the housing. AAAARRRRG! I just put this pump on the begining of Sept. Yea I have used the heck out of it but 2 months later and she's dead? I rinse the heck out of it after every job. Maybe if I stop taking care of them they will work longer. LOL

WHAT happened to the Delavan you won from the Florida Drawing Larry ?

Chris, I found out real fast that you can't pull 9 amps all the way from your truck battery like I do with the sureflows. Sureflows max out at 6 and work fine the way I power it... Needless to say that the Delavan is deceased!

Wire size determines max amperage carried.
You can get by with a Shurflow with smaller wire size and length.
Delevans like large diameter wire, as short as possible.
RIP Delavan.biggrin

Larry, now I see why your Delavan is dead. Like Chris says upgrade your wire and keep them short.

Use a separate good, strong car battery and 10 gauge wire.

I use a 770CCA/950CA car battery.

My 20hp pressure washer has an electric start w/voltage regulator/rectifier to keep the battery charged, so I can run my pressure washer and my 12V Delavans off the same battery.

My Kid has a Ford Explorer with dual 15 inch woofers in a huge box.
Each wooofer has a 2000 watt amp on it!
He uses 4 gage wire, with dual batterys, and an oversized Alternator.
He also has huge Storage Capacitors on each Battery.
His lights STILL  go dim when the bass hits, LOL
Trollling Motors draw a lot of amps.
Maybe the answer is a HUGE deep Cycle Marine batter you charge every night ?
This is what I used to run the Dual Shurflo's that built Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa.
I recharged every night, well I forot to a few times, and it was still OK

Just ordered a "Fat Boy" Delavan, I will let you know, specs say it has a max psi of 150 so I will guess and say at 150 you will still get around 5 to 5.5 gpm

The Fatboy is going to murder your other Delavan and Shurflo. The thing pumps like a champ. If I had to compare it, I would say it pumps about 90% what the Bandit does, and for a little 12v thats awesome.

The problem I had was it keeps blowing fuses, and the relay switch kept melting on the inside from getting to hot, and when that goes bad, the on demand function doesnt work and it explodes hoses. Get a couple of extra relay switches, and solder the grounding wire on, where it is on the one that comes with the pump.

Once you get it and get it all set up, please let me know what you use to hook it up. Wire gauge, fuse size, how far it is from the battery etc...Because I can't figure out why I blow the fuses.

I never used a "Bandit" per say, but I have used all kinds of roller pumps over the years.
My experience with them for roof cleaning chemical is this.
They spray the roof cleaning chemical really good, when they are new.
Then, the roof cleaning chemical eats away at the inner chamber of the pump.
This causes an uneven "pitting/rusting" chemical reaction that then effects both flow and pressure.
This is because the rollers no longer "seal" up against the roller pumps inner chamber like they did before the roof cleaning chemical attacked it.
My best "Luck" with roller pumps was with the cheap Hypro cast iron with the rubber rollers.
It seems the rubber was better able to "seal" against the rusted, pitted chamber.
Plus, when the pump locked up, the rollers would not break as easily as the "Super Rollers.
The new fat Boy Delevan is  not a roller pump, it is a diapraghm pump.
It looks very interesting.
Time will tell us more things about it, as design flaws as to its roof cleaning use reveal themselves.

Oh, I forgot to add, the other way around the bypass switch is to get a non switched manual bypass model, just like a bandit.
Bypass back into the tank, so when the switch blows, it wont blow hoses anymore ?

When I receive my FATBOYS I have decided to plumb them together but not on the same switch like I had my 5gpm 60psi Delavans.

They will be on separate switches and if I run them together, I will run them through two 3/4" hoses separately with two guys. The only time I will run them together through one hose is for filling up my chemical tanks with no nozzles, just open flow.

This way they will not be running at maximum pressure. If I keep them running at 60psi or less, they won't draw as much amps, saving them from overheating, blowing fuses, and killing the battery.

I will use large nozzles, #50 at least, #60 maybe, 1/4" barbs, or 3/8" barbs. I'll experiment to see which one gives me good distance w/o putting too much strain on the pump.

I ordered 8 gauge wire and 3/4" poly quick couplings to change out my 3/4" stainless steel hose reel swivel (which is getting rusty)

I can not see using any hose smaller than 3/4" for a pump that pushes this much volume, 1/2" or 5/8" would cause the pump to draw more amps and raise the pressure beyond 60psi, decreasing it's life.

Of course, this is all in theory, according to the performance chart. I won't know until I actually use them.

Roof Cleaning Pumps are a very interesting subject I have studied throughout my roof cleaning carreer.
The Dual Delavan Fat Boy Roof Cleaning Pumps look good Mike, and I know you will honestly report back to us roof cleaners as to you experiences cleaning roofs with them.
I very much LIKE the 3/4 Hose idea, less pressure, and thus less amp draw on the system.
The MORE amps, the more heat, the faster the motor heats up.
Off topic, I can't suggest the RED Kurri Tech hose for roof cleaning use any longer.
Ours kinks easily, and out of 300 feet, we only have about 225 left.
It got caught on a tile roof flashing, and cut it all up.
Love was everywhere, LOL
Might go back to Goodyear Plyvit, or Ag Hose.
Ag Hose is "the best", roof cleaning hose but it is stiff as hell when new.
The RED Kurri Tech Roof Cleaning Hose is the lowest PSI rated of all the Kurri Techs.
Maybe the higher PSI Rated would be better, as far as kink resistance ?

Got tthe Delavan Fatboy hooked up and this is my oponion, it is basically a better design, the old pump could not produce enough psi w/o cranking it up all the way, this one will do the same with more volume w/o touching the set screw
