There is a very fine line when operating Dual Delavans
I tried multiple combinations of hose size, length, nozzles, guns and figured out the best combination for running one or two pumps together in tandem.
I talked to Bob with Pressure Tek at the NC round table and he says that the 5850 Delavans are no longer available to adjust to 100psi. They are fixed at 5gpm 60psi.
The most each pump will output under a load (100-200ft 5/8 hose and a #40 nozzle) is 3gpm.
Running 2 pumps together in tandem took some tweaking to get it to double the output to a maximum of 6gpm.
The slightest little bit of restriction whether it be in the hose, gun, filter or nozzle will cause the dual system to bog down and produce less flow than the maximum of 6gpm.
60psi is not enough pressure to push a full 10gpm. If you want a 10+gpm roof rig, get a Yamada Kynar pump like Apples.
Dual Delavans
Hose: 5/8 works for one pump but not two in tandem. 5/8 hose is too small and will cause the pumps to cycle on and off.
3/4 hose is what you need for the dual setup.
Gun: Regular garden guns are too restrictive, so are the poly guns. Best cheap guns I have found are either the high flow twist guns http://www.lrnelson.com/industrial/50503
or
3/4 full port ball valve with adapters to fit a coupler for interchangeable nozzles. Have not tried the expensive accuspray guns.
Filter: Bogs the dual system down too much. No filter recommended.
Nozzles: The #30 or #40 works best for one pump, dual pumps need #60 nozzles at least. 3/8" barbs also work well.
Use the #30/one pump or #60/two pumps for extra reach Use the #40/one pump or 3/8" barb/two pumps for extra flow
Power Supply: Use a separate strong car battery. At least 770CCA/900CA. Use short as possible big fat 10 gauge wire and a 60AMP breaker switch so it won't fry.
Welcome Scott !!! Your signature is not working right. It is better, much better, to write out roof cleaning houston tx in your signature, and hyperlink it. This creates a text link, MUCH better. Got to remember, this IS a Page rank 3 roof cleaning Forum. A TEXT link on here is priceless to you. Chris
I ran them for a while, it was ok but if I knowing what I know now I would just purchase the new Delavan that is 7gpm @ 100psi and be done with it.
Oh, you mean the Bobcat roof cleaning pump ? IF it holds up, it should be a good pump. Remember, Poly Headed Pumps tend to leak as they are attacked by the SHC ? The MORE flow and pressure of the SHC, the faster they seem to go bad. But, new pump heads are cheap, and I undeerstand easy to change ? It MAY be the ticket for a roof cleaning pump ? Time will tell.

No not the Bobcat. It is actually a basic delevan 12v pump. But it pumps 7 GPM at 100PSI. I have one, but I was thingking about hooking 2 of those up for rinsing. The pump by itself is more than enough for applying sauce, but not for rinsing. It pumps as good as the Bandit.

Nope, havent left it completely yet. But our pump did go down on us again and we had thie roof below coming up. 14,000 sqft of tile and the 5800 delavan wasnt going to cut it. Delavan has a new roller pump (http://delavanagpumps.com/) that is keyed and field servicable. So we ordered it, but if this one craps out too, then we are def done with it and we'll look at a new setup.
Interesting thread. I'm sick of replacing my sureflow. Just finished up a job on Friday and noticed a decrease in PSI. Went and checked the pump and sure enough. Leaking all around the housing. AAAARRRRG! I just put this pump on the begining of Sept. Yea I have used the heck out of it but 2 months later and she's dead? I rinse the heck out of it after every job. Maybe if I stop taking care of them they will work longer. LOL
