Here are pics of my truck. It's a 1996 Ford Ranger. I built the flatbed myself. Took 2 days to weld it up, 2 days to paint, and 2 days to pull the old bed off and mount the new one. I REALLY like working off of a flatbed. And, I enjoy the economy of the 4-cyl.

On board I have a 50 gallon chem tank, 4gpm/4Kpsi 13 HP pressure washer, 200 feet of water supply hose, 200 feet of 1/2 poly braid, 200 feet pressure hose, Delavan 5800 pump, battery box with deep cycle marine for the Dela, and a tool box for tools, tips, and other stuff. In the tube, I carry extension wands and extension poles. Ladder is 20ft.

I applied all the lettering myself too. While it's not the dream rig, it's simple, light, good gas mileage, and makes me crazy cash!

On the flatbed... Local dealer wanted $1800. I have $325 in the steel, wood, and lights.

I am jealous, one because his name is Nick, Two because you are in Palm Harbor. That place rocks man. My girlfriend and I were contemplating moving to Dunedin, they have such an incredible brewery and great people.

As for the originator of this post, Mr. Allstar, who printed your lettering?

Ok so excuse me because I am new or a noob how ever you want to look at it. As I am currently going to get certified and all that I wonder if I can get by without all the custom trucks or rigs for awhile. Would it be so bad to shoot the chemicals thru my power washer obviously just the chemical tip.

You probably won't get a high enough concentration through your power washer.

First off, I wouldn’t use the words “power washer” when referring to cleaning roofs. The two just don’t mix (sort of like water and oil). Also, by no means do you need a $10,000 rig to start out. Use the search button and type in some keywords that pertain to new or start up roof cleaning rigs and “bare minimum” and you will see that 80% if not more of everyone here started out with parts an pieces and worked their way up after putting in a lot of hard work.

You really need to attack the Search button until your fingers hurt and read, read and then read some more! Do some marketing, take action and don’t worry about a big new shiny box truck just yet.

Tom, since you have an awesome name I'll help you out.  Your best bet is to spend the $100.00 bucks to become a premium member and people will take you more seriously.  You can "get into" roof cleaning cheaply and build up from there.  Feel free to call me.

ok here it is call bob at pressure tek he will get you set up for under 600.00 with everything you need to get started. U will need a trailer unless you set up in the back of your pick up. Your other high costs are a water/chemical tank which can be bought at your local tractor supply.

Do you have a business name yet? if not write about 5 down and get opinions from friends and family.
Do you have an insurance agent? If no Start calling around you definetly need insurance before you step foot on someones property.
Do you have a written business Plan? if not i highly suggest you create one, becuase with no plan there will be failure.
Are you Sure You Want To Have Your Own Business? Having you own business can be great and bad all at the same time.

What im trying to say is dont just jump into it half A**. Get the right equipment and a great advertisement plan and then go from there. Cheaping out on those two things will in the long run cost you more money and time.

What Mike (Diamond Roof Cleaning) said is the absolut truth:

"with no plan there will be failure."
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Plan in advance your marketing and networking and go out and get jobs, don't just advertise in the phonebook (most people throw them out, need a # they look up online) or pennysaver and sit back and wait for the phone to ring.  Talk to real estate brokers, friends that are in other service industries etc.  I arrainge with friends of mine that are too busy like landscapers to be competition that if they have customers that they service on a weekly basis and know have dirty roofs to reccomend me.  They are already in good with the H.O. which makes selling easier.  In return, if I have a customer that needs a landscaping service or masonry work like broken patio or driveway repaving, I'll reccomend them.

As for learning this business, read thru all sections of the forum and all the treads first, not only will you get your answers, but you'll find so much other information that you never would have thought of!

------------------------------------

BTW almost forgot; Join as a premium member and you'll gain far more great advice like Mike's & mine.  tons of grreat bus. consulting from premium members that have been there done that and already made mistakes and learned from the past that will save you thousands of $$$ for only $100.00, well worth it.

------------------------------------

Oh just saw you are a Premie now, never mind no

wink

Perhaps I should have posted more info on myself. here we go.

Have been running a small painting business in Northern N.J. for 20 yrs now. I have cleaned roofs before. Alright get ready to scream, yes with a PW and Sodium HYdroxide.

I have tried just bleach and it didn't seem to do much.Wasn't strong enough concentration. I have learned about the Softwash system and was amazed at how fast you can clean both roofs and homes with just the stronger chemicals.

Anyhow Painting is just no challenge anymore. It bores the crap out of me and by adding roof washing I will break up the monotony of painting everyday. I also offer several other services. And the name of the painting co is Family Painters.

I always like to see picture of others equipment to get new ideas.  Yours looks very nice to be easier to get around town (gas milage) plus work out of the back.  Keep up the nice work.  We also, have modified our rig since we orginally built it last year.  I will include some pictures later.
