LOL at myself AND you guys smile
This is like asking two mechanics WHY one does only brakes, alignments, and minor repairs, and why one does major motor work.
The brake guy will say he can do 19 brake jobs in the time it takes to rebuild/pull/reinstall a Motor.
The Motor Rebuilder will say he make thousands on ONE job.
We are ALL roof cleaners, and follow different business models.
PERSONALLY, I am in agreement with O'Bryan here, and do not "go after" treatments.
But we are Nationally known Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa, and have PLENTY of Tampa area Roof Cleaning work.
I just can't justify sending two roof cleaning professionals clear across Tampa Bay for 100.00 no

YMMV

I have no experience with copper strip results, but
I imagine that it will be the same as zinc.
In my area, about 9-10 years ago maybe longer?? confuse
A company canvassed my area and sold loads of
zinc strips. 3 -5 years later, those same
buyer/homeowners were calling me, to see why
they had clean stipes and black stripes.
It took me about 10 seconds to figure out. aww
If roofs were 100% flat & uniform, with no
high spots and low spots, I think zinc or copper would work.
That's not the case though.
So, the zinc / copper leach, ends up basically puddling
between rafter lines and missing the high
[rafter suppported] strips.
You get clean, black, clean, black etc.
So, after paying for the "strip job" smile.gif
You still have to hire a roof cleaner to keep your roof clean.
I havent seen a strip left on a roof in a couple of years now!
Dope dealin' kids probablt ripped 'em out and sold them for scrap metal-which they are. smile.gif

PS: I also tried the $100.00 etc a year maintenance,
back in around 1998 or so and 2 years later, just
prayed noone would call again!
I do not want to go through basically the same
roof cleaning process, for 100 bucks, that I could get $350. - $450.00 for!
It still takes about 1/2 the time on the job
and all the time in travel. furious
Never again for me! disbelief

Now, selling the Borax "Roof protection care" kit to the hillbilly homeowner?
Now I don't care who ya are, that there's funny! biggrin
It might twinge my conscience a bit too much, but it's certainly not crooked!  confuse

You are so RIGHT Chris!! There really is no wrong or right when it comes to treatment vs. no treatment and just cleaning. It's all up to ourselves to determine what will work for us. Any one of us may change game plans several times through out our roof cleaning career. This thread just shows we all have different ideas,...which is where we learn from.

As a builder, I also see where stripes would occur with strips. The jury is still out on the maintenance plans.

confuseUnder the top row with about 1" showing , you may wind up with black lines of algae because you have a little valley between the rafters , so because the rafters are a little higher the mineral deposits from the copper may not flow over them causing black lines . This is of cause over time

Hello All. As you will soon notice this is my first post. However, I have been reading posts for the last month and the info is outstanding. I am a third generation roofing contractor and I thought I could share some info about the copper strips. Quite simply -- it works!!! We use it as a up-sell to insure that the black streaks will not form. We install it on the very top shingle just before the ridge cap is installed. Leave three to four inches exposed and ALWAYS nail with aluminum or copper nails never galvanized. From a roofers point of view this is a useful tool however, not so much for a roof cleaner (no repeat customers). Looking forward to interacting with all you professionals.
