If you don't mind my asking. What would one expect to pay for a rig like that?

Gary, were you asking about the cost of a dolly or manlift, or something else entirely?

We've never used a lift truck, yet, but are interested in how much they cost, rent for, and easy of operation. A lift would definately be very helpful in certain situations. I would think that you could purchase a used truck at a reasonable cost from an auction site. What kind of rental rate to you have in Fl.? I would assume that each type of lift truck operates slightly different.
Your additional info is helpful.

I would think that PW any roof could be very expense in labor alone. How large of an area can you PW at once to remove the algae? Gosh, depending on the size of the roof you could be there all day and for what, $8 per hour or less!

They are super expensive to buy the 4 wheel drive self powered lifts.
You can get used power company trucks cheap.
Better to rent for us, since few tampa florida roofs are steep.

I've only rented one once. 60 ft articulated man lift. It was $1,000 a day. This was a 5 story condo. Roof was walkable just how to get up there! Had it delivered on a saturday. Sunday was free if we needed it. Also there was an timer on the lift. So once we got up there we shut it off.

Nick,

I like your new lift truck, it definately is sharp and a nice addition. If you don't mind me asking could you give us a ballpark idea of cost on something like that? Also, where did you get it? At an auction?
Thanks for your help.

So, what's the tallest ladder you guys will climb?  I'd like to get a lift for an upcoming job but I don't think I can get it down to the house.

Link away my friend in California!
Maybe it will save someones life, tile roofs can be very slippery, and you can easily fall and die.

40ft is it for us. We usually rent a lift 2-3 times a year. 90ft articulates with the jig boom are lots of fun. Remember to wear a harness and lanyard for saftey and to avoid fines.

On a ladder, what are you connecting the lanyard to?  This roof is too steep to walk also.

Sorry if I was not clear. Osha requires a lanyard and harness on any lift equipment.

Wow, $1000 per day for a 60 foot articulating lift????

Here I can get either a straight boom or articulating for $400 per day here, after 3 days then the rest of the week is free.

If you read deeply into OSHA regs, the owner or president or board members of the corp do not have to wear a harness in a lift. The employees of the company do though.

This has been discussed many, many times over on PWI.

I do wear my harness just in case in the Big Bucket Truck. It has a working height of 60' high and can boom out to the side about 50' and can put the bucket on the ground all the way around the truck.

Hello Apple Roof Cleaning!  I know your post was from quite awhile back, but I would like to let you know you now have a new choice for your Aerial Lift Rentals in the Central Florida area.  We are a new company, based in Ocala, Florida, and provide both straight and articulating aerial lifts (Boom Lifts, Manlifts) to our customers.  You will not find better pricing or better service anywhere in Central Florida.  We hope that you will remember A-Lift for your next project.

Sincerely,

Dan Ryan

That is great to know Dan! we do most of our roof cleaning work down here in Tampa, but do get up to Ocala and the Villages sometimes.

We use lifts all the time for Roof cleaning and power washing in pa.
I have a good story to tell, It was about 11-12-13 years ago we were doing a apartment complex in Long Island and as I was moving the boom of the lift over to a fire escape to close a window. The guy in the lift with me got out onto the fire escape and I had my hands resting on the bar of the fire escape. It was a 60 ft lift that was about 35 ft. high and extended out very far. All of the sudden the bottom fell out from me and I grabbed the rail I was resting on, yes i was hanging and sh..... my pants. I was younger and strong enough to hang on and pull myself up.

A sink hole opened up and swallowed half the lift, I was lucky it was the front part that went into the hole if it was the back part it would have slammed me into the ground on the other side. We had to get a tow truck out with a crane to get it out of the hole. I was lucky. After 2 hours I was at it again.

We broke some concrete paths getting it out and the management company I was working for made me pay 1,000 in damages I was mad but we do a lot of work for them so I had to shut up and pay. We do still do a lot of work for them.

So the lesson to learn is when on grass or anytime you can stop the engine and all the vibration so you do not open up the ground.
