Two thoughts:

1. couldn't we send a titan manifold to a PVC fabrication shop and have them CNC something for us?  There seems to be no lack of mills, in New England anyway.

2.  Anyone have any experience with Reelcraft reels?  They seem to have quite the variety and even can custom build reels to spec  ($$$).  Sounds like some of you need military spec hardware!   I fired off an email to their special engineered products group on the matter and included a link to this thread.  Maybe we'll hear something useful from them.

Lori is on this and so is Titan. Everything will be just fine.

I wonder whether the inside of the manifold could be coated with something to keep the SH from contacting the metal.

Some kind of plastic? Maybe baked on enamel coating like some water bottles have? Must be something out there.

It is NOT the Stainless Steel that is failing. Theoretically, Stainless Steel has only a "C" resistance to Chlorine, but when Stainless is THICK, it don't fail, in practice. It is the welds on the Titan inside the reel manifolds that are failing, not the stainless steel manifolds themselves. These weld joints are under a lot of stress every time we reel up the hose.

I had a titan stainless manifold fail recently.  It was about 1 1/2 yrs old, and actually broke off at the threads for the 90* elbow.  I wasn't surprised because I never rinsed out the reel the first year.  I called Lori @ PWP and she had one drop shipped to me.  I had the manifold in 2 days and the price was far better than I could've imagined.   Thanks Lori, for the quick response and unbeatable price.

I agree with you Clyde.  Some vendors give their customers discounts to be little other vendors.  This continuous ranting by Dejay makes me suspicious.  It needs to stop.  If you can't say something positive the STFU or spit out what you really want us to hear and vent.

I made a few calls today myself; Titian, Hannay, Summit, Dupont... I was thinking of some kind of a dip to coat the inside of the manifold but kept hearing the same thing, 1/2" ID is to small to blast for etching. All the coating companies I talked with said SH is extremely hard to protect anything against. Still waiting to hear back from a few companies, will let you know if there is any good news.

at one point he laughingly told me that 'everyone pays list price!'  I was shocked at his statement.  I was even embarressed to have heard Russ say something like that.  We believe that our customers work extremely hard to put food on their tables and deserve the right to save money on their equipment.  How dare make the assumption that a customer should always pay list?
__________________________________________________________________

You're a liar. I NEVER said a word about contractors paying list price. You took that "list price" comment completely out of context just to make yourself look better. Up to this point, I have not had a beef with you. But if the voices in your head can't keep you "respectful and POSITIVE", then we will have problems.

After speaking with you on the phone, I really felt like making some calls and letting certain people know that you like to discuss the particulars of who owes you how much money and for how long. I told you I had some receivable problems, but never disclosed who, or how much, or how past due anything was. I felt that was extremely unethical.

If you have a problem with DeJay, then leave me out of it.

I am at my freaking wits END with Titan Hose Reels, and can not suggest them any longer for Chlorine use. They have an inherent problem in their stainless steel manifolds they have known about for many years (because i told them). Here is the deal, they fail within 6 months because the WELD material is not stainless steel! It is a cheap MIG Weld, and it cannot resist the chlorine, even if you rinse it well. I am SICK of freaking breaking down because of these POS Hose reels. Today, w/o any warning, we are 45 miles from home, trying to do a Church roof with a lift, and guess what ? The freaking Titan Hose reel deceded to leak all over, w/o any warning. I am paying 300 dollars a DAY for the man lift, and we had to drive all the way back to tampa, to switch hose reels insides from our other truck. The Titan Manifolds are a bitch to change, because you need a puller to do it with.
Folks, if Titan is going to continue to make their reels this way, let's not use them. They have had years to FIX this problem, and have not done so. Let's explore some other hose reels for roof cleaning use. Titans SUCK

Chris,

Since we are now Titan dealers I will be happy to forward this post to them. Anyone else wana dish on Titan??????  Lets inspire them to fix this issue right away. They make an awesome reel!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is just the manafold that stinks.

If they can fix that I will be very happy. I have been using them for over 7 years now. Always have to have the manafolds rewelded at my fab shop.

I know of no hose reel even remotely close to the price of the Titans that is 36 inches like I need. Mark Teschler(The old owner and founder of Titan) who still works at Titan wants to see my failed manifold, to see what the deal is. I wonder AC if it might be this. My guys do not baby the reels. Sometimes we will have all of our hose out, and when we reel it it, we do not hand feed it on the reel, we just turn the crank and roll it all up. But WTF, if I want to hand feed something, I will adopt a Grandchild. AC, remember the reels on the OLD Mallard Roof Cleaning Trucks ? What brand of reels were they ? I remember when you used to be my competitor, I felt so "inferior" because of the beautiful hose reels you guys had.
Remember Them ?

Really I don't have a problem with Lori. When I spoke with her on the phone she seemed nice and very helpful.  If you read my post I never say anything bad about her I just say good about other vendors and it pisses her off.

If someone does good work for me Im going to pass it on because I would want them to do the same.

Oh and IMO the comments she just made about Russ and some others was very childish and shows me that she is not very professional so I choose not to do busiiness with her.

I all fairness to the good people at Titan Hose reels, we are the roof cleaning company from hell! Think about it for a minute ? We have been cleaning roofs in Tampa for many more years then just about any other roof cleaning company we know of.  We do much more actual roof cleaning work, and much of it big tile roofs, that require stronger chemical cleaning concentrations. This is because over the many years we have been doing this, we have quite a customer base. So, while others sit at home dead, we are out cleaning roofs. Happy Repeat Customers seldom shop, and if they do will often say " Lowball Luke said he will clean my roof for 200 dollars less, will you match it". We do, so end of story! If a reel lasts us 6 months, it will last you 2 to 3 times as long.

I saw them at the CETA show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

STEELE EAGLE

maybe we should look into them. They has a fiberglass frame. I did have manafold issues with them as well but it took a couple years. We just got pipe from HD and screwed it all together and made our own manafolds in the past.

Titan has already been on this forum and is reading this very thread. I forwarded the link on Friday before I hopped into my car to go over there.

I sat in the office with Mark at Titan on Friday when he read the thread. Mark immediately attacked the issue and began by calling the welder. Mark explained that they changed the procedure for assembling the manifold about six years ago.

Mark is passionate about his business and understanding the needs of the end users. He enjoys receiving used equipment for the purpose of performing autopsies.

Titan has been an outstanding company to work with! We have had customers call us at 4 pm and need items such as 22" ss manifolds or pin locks sent out immediately. For many companies, if an order is not received by 2 or 3 that day it will not go out. Sometimes companies even add a rush fee to an order if the customer needs it. Titan does not pad the order in any way. They have maintained pricing for years when metal prices have jumped up and dropped down. Titan has pulled through exhibiting outstanding customer service on many occassions for Pressure Washer Products. I do not have to worry about the customer receiving the order on the rare occassion that I need to have something drop shipped.

Chris's report is right.  I think that Mark is going to have his friend, a metallurgist, scan the point of failure on the manifold with an electron microscope.  Hopefully, we will get some pics to upload!

Chris, if Rex is heading over to Tampa today, Sunday or Monday, would you like him to drop it off at your house rather than your guy come over to get it?

Sure Lori, and I have 2 old worn out Titan Reels alongside the office here that Mark at Titan wants to examine, if Dad has room for them in the van ? The manifolds are a PITA to change w/o a gear puller we had, but could not find. We were forced to take our reel that failed to Florida Sprayers to have the last remaining manifold installed, since they are much closer, and we had a 225 dollar a day man lift on the job. Time was of the essence, we are busy cleaning shingle and tile roofs in tampa! Florida Sprayers charged us 150.00 to install the freaking manifold! If you take the 150.00 they charged us, plus the new manifolds cost, we could have darn near had a NEW Titan reel, but we were pressed for TIME.
Tell Dad to call first, if he is coming at 813 655 8777
