We generally bag our gutters to collect the run off. I try to spray using a fan tip to cut down on run off so the bags dont get too full, when spraying asphalt shingles. When gutters can't be bagged, I use gutter canes.
We have used every concievable method to control run off. Our truck is equiped with bags, homemade gutter cane, 300' of garden hose, sprinklers, gutter extensions and on some jobs even 75' of drainage pipe. I'd rather carry the extra supplies than have to return to a job site because of some plant damage.

You just reminded me, I carry two 6" round 40' rolls of roll out plastic tubing too. Thing is, having a dumping area within 40' of a downspout. I've used then a few times.

I bag gutters when we have to. I also use gutter canes and I also have 50 ft rolls to extend downspouts . Not every job is the same and that is why we have all three options with us at all times.
