As you know I focus exclusively on bass fishing but my hat is off to you. No matter how cold it is a trout(rainbow?) like that will get the blood flowing. Nice job.

It is a Steelhead. A full grown, lake grown version of the rainbow trout. They hatch in our rivers, and migrate to Lake Michigan where they spend a few years until it is time to spawn. Then head back up the rivers. Caught it in the Grand River, downtown Grand Rapids. One of the best rivers for salmon and steelhead runs.
I enjoy fishing I went with my father all the time. The big fish then was fluke and we could keep them at 12" now i think it's 20". Fishing is tuff down here big fishing trawlers are right out side the inlet and will run right over you if you don't move...that I learned first hand. I fell in Love yes I said love about 5yrs when I caught one by accident in the middle of july fluke fishing. I thought I was stuck on the bottom and then I had a nice little fight, up to the boat...under the boat and then aboard. It was a 28" bass and it was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen { I know that sounds odd } I have not caught any in the last two years mainly to not finding the time.
Now we have Dave, Jeff, Ted, Pat and myself as the founding fathers/framers of the RCIA Anglers. Do we have any other members actively involved or just like fishing? You never know this could lead to road trips. I know guys like AC like to fish as well.

Nice Dave. I've wanted to lock on to a steelhead since I was little - remember back when Curt Gowdy hosted Wild World of Sports? Sitting on the floor in the living room glued to the TV dreaming of steelheads (and sailfish)! That was a long time ago! We just don't have salmon or steelies this far south.
We have monster lake trout (land locked) a few hours from here (where I'm originally from) but they are VERY elusive. Most troll at night for them using planer boards in very deep water.

Did someone say ROAD TRIP??? (Figures, I just sold the darn boat last week........)
Nice thing about the steelhead up here, they are in the river all winter long. So, if any of you guys get up this way in the winter, I can put you on steelhead, by boat, or if you would like a real challenge, standing in the river that is about 28 degrees, and the temp outside in the teens. Nothing finer than that..... ( did I mention fingers so cold they will snap off it hit to hard )
Wish I had the patience for it. My ideal fishing trip would be dropping 2-3 block busters tied to a brick. Scoop up the stunned fish and be outa there in 20 minutes. Give em to whoever wants em, or throw em back. Stop at Mc D's on the way home for a Fish Fillet.
Thats not a fish.....that's bait for this kind of fish!!!!!
And I'm not having to wear friggin' foul weather gear!!!
Seriously, my hats off to you for braving that weather.
