Looking for input on tips for a 18" Hammerhead surface cleaner. I have been using the same tips that came stock with it (1502) but have heard a few guys using 2502's. I only have a 4 gpm and the guys who are using the same GPM say they can move a little bit faster with the 2502 tips.

I'm looking for some information on a peice of equipment and not a sugestion on what is the best surface cleaner for me to use. If you don't use or like the 18" Hammerhead, don't reply...simple as that.

This is what I use ... this is my question.

I am looking for the tip size that other users have on their machines.

I use 1502's that came with it but a few guys use 2502's. I am asking current users of 18" Hammerheads if they switched from the OEM's and if the results are better.

Ray, the 1502 tips that it comes with actually clean better IMO especially if your gonna be cleaning real nasty surfaces.I've tried various other size tips and always liked the 1502 best. Right now I've got a 20 in hammerhead but I also have a whisper washer classic. The whisper washer classic out performs the hammer head everytime. I believe my classic came with 1502's already installed. Bottom line--- I would stick to the 1502 tips.

Personally I feel the hammerheads are the biggest pieces of crap ever made. I killed three of them (new) on one commercial job last year and swore them off forever. Sorry, Ray, I see hammerhead and my blood boils thinking about that experience. Here's what I've found about tips from my limited experience: on a 4 gpm the tips size doesn't make a significant difference either way. Improvement may be 10% or so. However frequent replacement of the tips does help.

On the Hammerhead, you can also adjust the bar lower or higher.  If you go with 2502's lower the bar a little bit.  This ups your walk speed a little without increasing the tiger stripe effect.

They are also inexpensive to rebuild if they break.  Go here http://www.jnequipment.com/show_detail.php?item=DFSCP18_-_GP-Hammerhead_18_Inch_Flat_Surface_Cleaner_by_General_Pump

I have an old 20" hammerhead that has been with me for about 7 years. In my 4gpm days, I tried 1502's and 2502's. I kept both on hand and liked them both depending on the condition of the concrete. The 1502 was my most used size. I also found that replacing the tips fairly often kept it running better. The tips would wear over time and a fresh set would make a noticable difference for me.

Ray throw everything you've ever owned straight off a bridge and go buy a whisper wash. (just kidding bro, I couldnt help myself). I actually prefer Hammerhead with employees. Somehow they cracked the cover of an old hammerhead, and then they all played dumb. Thid can also happen to a whisper wash. You can get hammerhead pretty cheap at Sherwin Williams.

I agree hammerheads are a piece of crap, but thats why you can buy 3 for the price of 1 whisper wash.

Sounds like I need to buy some new tips for the Hammerhead and retire it as a back-up.

If you are 4gpm you will love a 12 inch, I still love mine! I never use the hammer head, just eye candy on trailer. But I just bout a vanguard with a 5.6 pump.

Residential you will love the 12 inch. Perfect for basement stairwells!

Ok first off sorry to bring this thread back from the dead but I feel my question is relevant to the topic so no need to start a new thread.

I have a 4000 4gpm 13hp honda belt drive and a 20" hammerhead ($200 almost brand new couldn't pass up that deal and couldn't afford a whisper wash). I carry 1502 for the really bad stuff, 2502 for general cleaning, and even 4002 for the light duty work. We all know the 1502 has a smaller cleaning path and more power than the 4002. With all the tips, the faster I move, the less tiger striping I have. 90% of the time I spray the flat concrete with SH so it loosens up the dirt and kills the algae (lasting longer) so I don't need the power of the 1502. 1502 walking slow = stripes. 4002 walking fast = no stripes, however I usually end up having to walk back over it a second time usually at a 90 degree angle to my first walk.

So my question is do any of you have any special tricks or secrets (that you are willing to share) to cleaning the flat stuff without leaving stripes? ... other than buying a clasic and a 8gpm hot water skid... thats a pw dream machine lol.
