Im trying to follow the philosophy of working "on" my business rather than "in" my business. I'd really like to start getting more steady commercial work like Ray from Spraywash. He seems to be content and doing well. Its not easy to find fresh leads day in and day out. I was thinking to get involved with my local Chamber of Commerce and start rubbing elbows with some of these folks. They always have these little breakfast gatherings and coktail/business card exchanges. Even though I dont drink. Cuz the last time I drank I partied with a hot dancer but when we woke up she somehow transformed into a JJ Walker look alike.
So what do you guys think?

I just dropped out, I did not participate enough to get a ROI. If you join put it on your agenda to make time for the meetings. I need more commercial work, it is very frustrating to see banks replacing roofs because of stains, we call on churches, nursing, senior living centers, apartments, funeral homes, you name it, we call on them. Maybe we are planting seeds, maybe we are wasting time and gas. We have had 2 commercial jobs this year.
I'm about to join mine. I am in a few networking groups in my area and they have done nothing but good. BNI is one of the larger more productive groups. These groups usually do nothing but good and get your name out there and others in your group want the same thing you want..... more business. So everyone tends to help each other in several different ways.
I belonged to mine, until they hired an unlicensed contractor [their lawn man] to paint the building. I actually stopped by when he was doing it and asked for his license and he said he didn't have one, but his sister worked inside! I am a licensed painting contractor in Sarasota County and was in Charlotte County at that time. I went inside, raised a stink and told them to refund my $ for that year and I wanted no part of a chamber that REQUIRED me to supply a painting license to be a member, but had the lawnman paint when the job came up!
Here I am, getting all fired up again, over something that happened in like 1999.
In actuality, I believe it is worthwhile belonging to your Chamber though.
