It actually feels pretty good to walk away from a job. It was a shingle manserd roof, with pink cedar shake ciding. My first concern was safety I couldn't get a stable ladder position to hit the top of the roof, the only way would have been to put a ladder on an uneven roof. My second concern was the pink cedar siding, that was on every dormer. How in the world could I clean the deep black algae that is touching the siding of the dormer?
I have some 1/4 inch plywood I hold along the gables, that way the mix does not splash and spray on them. Pre wet the gable also. You also need to know your limits.
None of us ever want to walk away from a job site knowing we couldn't complete it. I admire you for admitting it might have been beyond your means. Perhaps if we saw some photos of this challenge we(RCIA members) could brainstorm and come up with some advice/solutions. If you need me to drive out there tomorrow I would be happy to. Just let me know.

You can get a chicken ladder to get to where you need. A lower flow pump helps with overspray, you can also use a painters shield to protect from overspray.
I actually just thought of a possible solution, but I would have to set an A frame ladder on both sides of a lower roof peak in order to get to the top of the upper roof. Which I won't want to balance a ladder on top of a roof peak. The Homeowners water pressured also sucked, I would need something better in order to seriously water.
I have walked away from a couple. Mostly when the customer gives me an uneasy feeling. When they mention how old their roof is and ask me for copies of my insurance 15 times Its time to walk. Just did this a couple weeks ago. The lady went bonkers. I figured I would let someone elses insurance company pay for her new roof.
Dan walking away is a hard thing to do. I did it this year , it was in the very beginning. The customer was difficult on the phone and had even more demands in person. But I feel your pain, and remember to never go against your gut feeling! no matter what kind of feeling your wallet is giving you. I think posting pictures and letting some of the master roof cleaners here at RCIA help you.
I walked about 2 months ago. It was a 10 million dollar home on cape cod. It was massive and all the siding was dark weathered red cedar. It would have been a nightmare! As tempting as it was, and I knew I could pull it off, the stress was not worth it to me.
I have 2 5850 one for chemical transfer and one for rinsing so I don't reley on customer water pressure.
LOL Keep rubbing it in my face, everyone knows what A&E is packing thats why I am skipping right over the 5850 and carrying a 2nd fatboy.
The stress was not = to the money
I was at the job ready to clean.
I spoke with the customer and I had already cleaned his garage 2 weeks earlier so he knew how good our work was. But I told him I couldn't guarantee 100% satisfaction, and because of that, I wouldn't preform the service.

How about a picture of the house Dan - either from a camera or a screen shot from Bing?

I hate to say this is a perfect job for Citra Shield. No worries about the sh damaging the other areas. You can spray 40 ' in many direction to cover there roof safely
I have been cleaning with SH for 5 yrs now and NEVER damage anything! Why do you keep saying that?
I don't have any pictures right now, I will try and get them up in the future. It wasn't a tough roof to spray just alot of different factors made it not worth the risk. I tied getting a bing map, but it won't work if you put it in the address it takes you to a spot in the woods.
