I got this lovely email from a customer today... kinda funny... at the same time, id love to meet the contractor talking ish... I would never wish anyone bad business... I get asked about competitors a lot, and never say anything negative... but this kinda stuff makes me want to put my fist through the back of their head....
Hey.. if you got haters... you must be doing something right...
Email:
HI,
I have a few questions. One of the other contractors who gave me an estimate contacted me. Of course he had nothing but bad things to say about your company, but he did alert me to a few questions.
First he said that you guys are not roofers and will not get up on the roof. He said that you will shoot water up onto the roof from the ground. That will force the water under the shingles, damaging them and creating leaks. He said that his company rinses the roof from the peak of the roof, so the water runs down, not getting under any shingles and causing any leaks. That does make sense to me.
Can you comment on this? This does have me concerned.
Thanks,
DD
My reply:
Sounds like he's a little jealous. First, we are NOT a roofing company, roofing companies replace roofs, 2nd we are a Certified roof cleaner. We do go up onto your roof and apply our cleaning solution. If you would like to contact our own customers I will be glad to give you a list of references, with both before and after pictures of their homes and roofs. I would much rather let our customers talk for us, than myself do it.
I would love to know the companies name who told you this though, because I can promise you a few things. One they aren't certified, I know this because we are the only certified cleaner in bucks county. and two they are probably over charging customers and are angry that we can provide better service for a better price because we don't spend time bad mouthing the competition, we spend time cleaning, and becoming more efficient at our trade.
You can call me directly if you have any questions. - Joe Cleary, Owner. 267 688 5488.

Decent response. Somewhere Ive lost my way to be so cordial. So thanks for posting!
I think i learned that part from working at a major bank for 5 years... talk about corporate politics... it still gets under my skin though.. there's enough dirty roofs for more then one company in PA lol.

I agree 100%! Talking bad about fellow contractors is just bad business. It will eventually bite them in the *ss. Just keep on educating the homeowners and you will be much better off than the guy who has to put someone down to build themselves up!
Good answers, you can always think of other things you should of said. Your before and after photos plus testimonials should speak for themselves. Still pisses you off though!
I AM a roofer. If the roof is in good shape then they are sealed down by a tar strip. What little solution that does hit the front of the shingles, does not have enopugh pressure behind it to get past the tar strip. Try this sometime. Get on a roof in GOOD condition and see how much resistance the lip of the shingle has against pulling up on it. If it's in good shape you will need to force a putty knife or flat blade in to break the seal.
