This is extremely sad. How can he? Even if SH was dirt cheap...between chemical, labor, equipment, traveling, insurance, etc. he would lose money. Doesn't the management company look for responsible bids?

Beats me guys. I did some calculations to compare to my buddies based on costs alone. My overhead is very aggressive, but I wouldn't even start my truck for $300 a building. The margins for commercial are not good in general. No interest in commercial roof cleaning here. (Other commercials gigs might be a different story) "Harry" can have 'em LOL
Hank - managment companies are under immense pressure to reduce costs.... I for one would want a decent track record before awarding a bid though. This guy is brand new, hence the green price.
Zach - the lurker reading your informative posts today could be your 'Half Priced Harry' tomorrow. And folks wonder why I don't post juicy information any longer nor host Wednesday Night Talkshoe Programs until 1:00 am.
*sigh*

The management firm shouldn't allow or engage him to start the project unless he can supply verified documentation.
Forget about workmans comp. He probably doesn't have any liability insurance for the business or any insurance on his truck/van/VW rabbit or whatever he uses.

Gold is trading at 1642.48 /oz as of this writing. You sell your .oz of gold for -
a) 1642.48
b) 1500.00
c) 300
Nevermind - we've played that before. Let's play THIS game:
You live in a NFL city (read expensive) and you get invited to bid on a portion of an apartment complex including 14 buildings. JUST like the one in the pic. Realizing that pricing can be a touchy subject on a forum, what would you have bid per building?
(For the record - we were a no-bid. Instead we passed the bid on to a colleague that was interested.)

Ok, ok. I recevied a call from one of the Roof Shampoo 'dealers' today. They call themselves dealers rather than franchisees for legal reasons I guess. Anyway, he's a good man (lousey roof cleaning process) and we get along great and even send each other leads (subject for another thread on another day.)
So, he calls me today, "madder than a wet hornet" ranting about a commercial bid and some crazy ass price that won it. It turns out that he has an inside source at the mangement company that shared the details....
The winning bid was........
$300 per building!!!!!! LOL CRAZY!. And this is in Fairfax VA! Hell, even the Floridians are laughing now! $300 per building??!! The going rate around here is MORE than that for 1/2 a residential garage!
He won't be around (the industry or the RCIA) long at this rate...Then again perhaps times are desperate for him. Folks will do what they need to do I guess. Why else would someone do that??
Yet as of now, 2 of the 3 major roof cleaning businesses here have him tagged as a rookie lowballer..... The third major compnay may think the same tomorrow...after I speak with him.
I hate to see anyone go out of business or get hurt but half price harry will do one or the other at this rate. He'll try to cut corners and will ultimately pay the price. Word tends to get around with property management firms.
