Roof Cleaning FAQ.

Every building has a roof to keep things dry, and as long as the roof system does it's job, then all is well right?
Roofs are one of the biggest over looked maintenance of many homes & buildings, while built for durability and longevity, roofs still need some care.

Some common misunderstandings are the algae growth is not affecting my shingles or their performance.
The National Roof Contractors Association has stated that :
" Moss and algae: Moss can grow on moist wood shingles and shakes. Once it grows, moss holds
even more moisture to a roof system's surface, causing rot. In addition, moss roots also can work
their way into a wood deck and structure. Algae also grows in damp, shaded areas on wood or
asphalt shingle roof systems. Besides creating a black-green stain, algae can retain moisture,
causing rot and deterioration.
Trees and bushes should be trimmed away from homes and
buildings to eliminate damp, shaded areas, and gutters should be kept clean to ensure good
drainage."

So to care for your roof, keeping it clean and free of debris, like tree limbs rubbing off granules, getting a professional roofing company to perform an inspection to evaluate and tune-up your roof is a proactive step to prevent prematurely replacing your roof. Getting the most out of your home's exterior brings substantial savings long term and maintains property values.

The shingles are strong, but algae is more hardy and loves the nutrient rich properties of asphalt shingles. Many times the valleys will retain moisture and cause leaks within the valleys
Roof caulking can wear out and crack, leaving water an open spot to enter. Shingle nails  ( commonly known as a nail pop)can back out of the wood sheathing, which provides an entry way for a driving rain to enter. Replacing a roof can be very expensive and with some minor maintenance can last much longer than most expect.

A roof with black streaks is NOT a sign of needing replacement.

Roof cleaning and roof tune-ups are a very inexpensive. A soft wash, non pressure roof cleaning by Presidential Pressure Washing can renew your roof and with  over 28 yrs of roof experience, we will note if you have cracked caulking, nail pops or inadequate ventilation. We can evaluate and clean your roof to get many more years out of your asphalt roof system.
