The swivel on my overpriced Tital hose reel finally started leaking. So that begs the question, rebuild it or replace it?
I haven't rebuilt one of these before, so I'm not sure of any specialty equipment needed, if any. It's only a $46 difference, so I'm thinking replace it for now, then rebuild the old one of these days for a spare.
Anyone have any practical experience they can speak from?
I would get a new one and rebuild that for spare. If you need a special tool to remove something like a clip or what ever.(I have that hose reel and never taken it apart yet) I would first go to a mechanics shop and they would most likely do it for nothing. Go straight to the mechanic not the front desk. "Oh gosh golly I am trying to rebuild this piece of $&%$ and for the life of me I can't remove this thing."
Or winter is coming just unscrew your hose and only use the reel to hold the hose. Rebuild it and have it ready for spring.

Thanks guys. I remembered something about plastic swivels, but I'm really partial to PressureTek. I'm only using the hose reel for my 200' of ag hose Chris. (It's a beast to handle otherwise) My 3/4" hose is on reels, but only for storage - no swivel in use.
Good idea about the replacement AND the rebuild Dave. I didn't want to drop the $50+ on a replacement swivel if the rebuild was fast and easy. (I took a swivel for a surface cleaner apart once, major PITA.)
I'll order both in the morning. I might as well order a couple more pumps too while I'm at it.
Its the end of the year and my reel went a month ago been winding my hose backwards then going to the next and have to unwind the whole thing but getting er done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@Dave - I thought my 5gpm pump croaked today. (It did, but I fixed it this evening). So I had to switch over to the big system. I would have rather just slammed a new 5gpm pump in it's place. Plus we'll be working for a while longer, and perhaps thru the winter (when the weather cooperates.) I am still thinking of heading south if things get really quiet here.. I want more replacement pumps anyway, so I might as well get them now. Speaking of which, one of my batteries dropped a cell, so I might as well take care of that too.....(Anyone need a perfectly good 10 volt marine battery? LOL)
@Chris A - that's a good idea if you're in a pinch. A really good idea - thanks for sharing.
I recently went 1/2" quik connect. I designed so you dont have to unwind all the way. Just mke sure its rinsed properly and spray with silicone lube frequently. I no longer have to fear the inevitable.

i did the same about two months ago. but i use 3/8 quick connects
My $10 kit arrived from Bob (PressureTek.Com) and it was a piece of cake to rebuild. It took way longer to go buy snap ring pliers than anything else. If you use a Titan, you may want to keep a rebuild kit on the rig. I ordered a spare swivel as well.
Ted I saw someone mention using quick connects in place of a swivel. Im guessing It would have to be unhooked to reel or unwind the hose???
I might try that out for a few days. One of my titans has a geyser gushing from it and I have neglected to order a replacement swivel.
That was me. I have an electric titan reel and wind it up without disconnecting the QD. However the hose inlet hose is short but you could ti it off so it does not wrap around.
