Hello everyone, I recently been lurking around the boards doing some reading. Now that I'm on the premium side I figured, I would introduce myself.
My name is Dan, I'm 23 and see ALOT of potential in the roof cleaning business. I don't plan on starting the business offically until the spring. With winter approaching I plan on fine tuning a rig and building a marketing ploy.
So far I cleaned two houses, both came out not so good. (Trial and Error only way for me to learn.) I used 15g SH / 40g Water / 16oz of Dawn. This Saturday I'm going back at it using a 40/60 mix. I understand Dawn isn't the best, im just using the rest until I purchase Ammonyx Lo.

Dan where are you getting your SH from? If its store bought 5-6% commercial "bleach" its most likely only really 2-3% available chlorine by the time you purchase and use it. Industrial Sodium Hypochlorite is 12.5-15% (sometimes only 10%) fresh. This might be why. The temp. this time of year is also an issue.
We originally got started with the roof cleaning idea bc my dad was using a pump up with clorox. I used 12% from a place called master chemical. 55 gal drum.
I'll definitely send you a pm, I'm always lookIng to learn.
The closest PA guy is Hank (waxman). He is about an hour and a half.
What was wrong the the roofs that you tried to clean? Were you applying with a pump up sprayer or with a chemical pump?
Hopefully the SH is hot and ready to roll from Master Chemical.
I used a hose and chemical pump My mix was more like 25% it cleaned, but there are still black streaks. Lets say if I was the customer I wouldn't have been happy. My technique used was simply spray from top down, I think next time I'm gonna highlight the real bad areas first and then do a full top down. We had 20mph winds today so, I never got to try out a higher SH and some IPA. Hopefully tomorrow.
Mentally this is where I am, I have seen you guys all do it, so I know it works, but I need to be able to do it myself, so I can confidently knock on some doors.
Ya I asked about the SH they typically don't have it, at this place, I got one of the last barrels, next time they told me to place a direct order and hopefully I can get the price down from 3.30/g.
Just you know, all 55 gl. drums have a sticker on them that says lot number with about 8-10 letters and numbers. The first 2 letters tell you where it was made (CI=Cincinnati OH) the next set of numbers tell you when it was made (101411=oct 14 2011) The shelf life for SH is 30 days before it quickly ldegrades down to about 5-6%. If you got the last barrel, it was probably severly degraded. Check the label.

I'm away from home right now, but I really need to check this out.
Buckmann's is the Chlorine supplier and they are located about 2 hours from me, so I'm happy to known it's coming from PA, but i really need to check that label and look to into more suppliers.
I use Buckmans too Dan, and I can tell you from experience and from seeing their facility that the SH you got was probably weak. I use to get it by the drums from them and I didn't realize how weak it was until I started getting it delivered by the tanker truck. The tanker delivery at most is a day old, the barreled SH could be weeks possibly a month old. You can tell just by the diffence in color. Save your drums and just have them come out and fill them up.
I pay $130 55 gal drum. But one time they gave me food grade sh (guys in warehouse made a mistake) and did not know it till it was gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! comes in same barrel watch out for that.

Ok so i buy threw master chemical at 3.30 a gal. Master chemical buys threw buckmans. I am 2 hours away from buckmans so I don't know if they would deliver to me. I definitely think my sh was weak. It still worked fairly well, but not perfectly. My 55er could have been sitting at buckmans for 3 weeks then master chemical for a month, I dont know.
How many barrels do you have for them to fill? Is there a quota?
You guys that use buckmanns where is the date on it? I tried looking on the label and barrel.
