Sold my first roof cleaning today

Well I went to clean their gutters and sold them on a roof cleaning. I didn't use the sq. ft. method but I think I'll be fine. It wont be an awesome pic do to lica damage Only problem is I don't have my rig set-up yet and I'm having trouble finding SH.

The pump and lines should be here in a day or so. I ordered through Bob at pressure tek(nice guy). Still need to locate a 125 gallon tank. Found one at a local tractor supply but it has a drain on the bottom and with all the reading I have done it tells me not to buy it(leaks) and its $400. It just doesn't seem right to pay more for the tank then the pump.but what do I know.

Locating a SH suppier has been difficult. There just doesn't seem to be that much demand for it in my neck of the woods.

Also cant seem to find anyone with Ammonyx. Everybody says their stuff will do the same thing, but again after all the reading I don't want to mess around.

Busy as hell painting and don't have much time to do anything else.  Good help is soooo hard to find. You would think with the 14 million unemployed in this country I would be able to find one person qualified to work with me. Of course the help needed is mainly with the painting part of my business pretty much anyone can be the ground guy for roof cleaning.

Go with the bottom feed tank thats cheap you are just starting out. I have 3 of them, I have replaced each bottom seal once over two years and it's very easy. Don't be fooled thinking the ground man is not inportant, I am the ground guy 99% of the time. I lose no plants, shrubs, decks, paint or anything. The water guy is in charge here, he says when we move and where to. You can do a great roof job, lose aa shrub your done! I water because I care more then them and when i water I leave with peace of mind.

There is nothing wrong with using 55 gal. drums. I've been cleaning roofs over a year now and I still use them. I see no need of droping that much $$ for a poly tank. The only way I will buy a poly tank is if I can get a deal on a used one.

Congrats Tom.

Caution my friend as these words may come back to haunt you. (the ground tech needs his/her game on, always.)

I did a quick search on google and it shows you have 3 Univars within 50 miles of your town for your SH.

I got a 65 gal tank from Tractor Supply it holds enough for most jobs. I get my sh in 15 gal barrels so I can bring them with me too refill the tank if necessary. I use Talon from Southside equipment and think it works great.

there's a univar less than an hour from you and also a place called buckmans that offers delivery service (about $2.75 delivered). you can call Don from brainerd for the ammonyx (5 gallon delivered somewhere around $75) or if you need a surfactant in a pinch just go to sam's and get dawn (professional kind). no need to get a 125 gallon at the moment, just grab a 55 from a local car wash, they will be more than happy to give you an empty drum for free .... in fact they'll treat you like the 2nd coming of Christ if you do.

i got my ground guy from an ad i placed on craigslist, the response i got was pretty overwhelming as i received over 100 inquiries in 48 hours (i'm also next to several colleges so your response might not be so high).

spraying the roof is the easy part, the ground guy is really the more important of the two IMO.

One the ground guy note: remember he is the lead.. don't get ahead of him and if you have to shutoff the flow for a few minutes, so be it.
I got pissed at Randy the one time I worked with him ( 2 story job), being on the ground you have to navigate the hose around flowers, lighting, pots/planters, hills etc.
Up top it is easy to whip around the roof even more so if he has been a roofer his whole life.. lol
Plus you want to be professional in front of any audience, neighbor or HO. Patience is key for a few jobs, work it slowly and it should come out great!

Wow just got a price from an Aqua-tech and damn near fell off my chair. SH 55g delivered(I could pick it up) $425. Won't be going there. Everybody keeps mentioning univar and I looked into them. There is no univar in N.J. I inquired with them anyhow thinking maybe they sell to someone else but still haven't heard back yet. This other co. quoted me for Ammonyx 55g delivered $1215. This Talon stuff somebody mentioned is that the same as Ammonyx?? I guess the search goes on.

You keep getting quotes on 55 gal of what you need. Do you have a lot of roofs to do? SH only has a shelf life of about 30 days. buy small and stay fresh.

I have access to 140 gallon verticle tanks/vats all day long at $140 each, plus VA sales tax. There's nothing in it for me.  It's just a price I negotiated with my supplier.

The nice thing about these tanks, aside from being very heavy duty, is the minimal foot print for 100 gallons.  No bottom valves  to worry about either.  PM me if there's any interest.

Pick up only in NOVA.

Go get 'e, Tom.  Those pics workin' out for ya?

univar has 3 locations within an hour of you (paterson, bloomfield, edison). a 55 gallon drum of ammonyx is WAY too much since you're just starting out. you can negotiate the price of sh with the univar rep, i pay $2.25.

don't make it more complicated than need be, once you get the ball rolling things will quickly fall into place.

and congrats on your 1st job Tom, make sure you do it on the weekend, get a lawn sign and hand out some flyers. good luck!!!!

Thank You for your compliments. And I don't know your name RC WC pa all the cities you named are at least an hour away from me. I need to find a supplier as close as possible. I think I found one about 30 min, away that I plan on negotiating with. And Ps My new pump kit came today. So Siked. JUst need a tank and a battery. At least I think. I think I'll do a practice run on my Dads house to get the bugs worked out.

Opie,

Unless you plan on going thru that much SH in short order, I wouldn't buy it by the drum.
