Hi everyone on sunday I did my first roof, it is my own house, it has moss clumps in varius area's and lots of black streaking, I mixed 5 gallons of SH and 30 gallons of water, and a quarter a gallon of onomyx , I really layed it on probably too much, I have to control how much I use, it was about 65 degrees outside at about 4 pm when i did the application, the next day we had a bit of rain but not much to do a good rinse so the roof still looked pretty tough, on Wednesday 3 days later i decided to do a rinse with water and I was amazed at how well it looked but still had some sign of black streaking as you can see from the attachments, should I have used 20 gallons of SH? with 30 gallons of water
Your solution was too weak to do a complete job. Re-do it with stronger mix.
Gary
Gary nailed it Nick. Some words of wisdom from Chris T come to mind on this: keep an eye on your solution at work. If a streak or stain doesn't disappear in about 5 minutes, heat up the mix. If it's less than 5 minutes, weaken it some. This 5 minute rule accounts for variations in temp etc. It should be just 'hot' enough to get the job done.
I used 45 gallons of mix which 15 gallons is SH and 30 gallons is water, so would that not be 33%? as for the fence its new I'm just not quite finished the painting LOL
I am in the car business, have been for 22 years, mostly as a general sales manager, but tired of the business and want to do something different, nobody does roof cleaning in British Columbia so I thought thnis may be something I want to tap into so i purchased a bucket truck and outfitted it for roof cleaning so hopefully it goes like wild fire, I will attach pictures of my truck

Great Idea Nick, Larry Millette here and myself are old "Car Guys", LOL
Hey, I have done most everything to make a buck one can imagine, at one time or another
when I was rinsing my roof today a guy stopped and asked if I cleaned roofs or just was doing my own, I have not yet put any signage up , I am just in my testing stages and want to get it right so I did my house on the mountain and next I have 2 other homes on a farm about 10 miles away that i'm going to do also, by then I will be ready to go out in the public, anyway the guy said to me you sure look like you know what your doing, can you come and do my roof, i had a guy do it 6 months ago and moss and streaks are back and he did nothing in the way of what your doing, so I said sure once i'm finished my testing i will be over to look after your roof as well and guarantee you will be satisfied.
great job , beef up the mix a little say to 15sh -25 h2o , hard to say anything else dont know how hot of sh you are getting, but it came out so so .. I always do the worst side first then take a break for a few minutes, re hit the black areas and then sometimes water down the rest of my mix to hit the areas that are not showing black streaks.
the next 2 homes you do should and will come out better! Im an ex new and used car salemans also, actually I love the trade just not very profittable right now, sold cars on the souuth side of chicago, loved it , long hrs good money, lots of females , lol
great job nick

Which mix ratio did you use???? Either way, your mix was toooooo weak, either from not enough SH or weak SH.
the question not brought up is what "percentage" of available chlorine is you SH?
even if its labeled a certain %, with time and temp., that %number could degrade to much less affecting the mix ratio needs.
At 12.5% SH, 5 gallons of SH and 30 gallons of water = approx. 2% per gallon avail chlorine. Thats a bit weak (esp up north and in cooler, cloudy weather) but the amount of surfactant and dwell time also plays a very important part. Not sure if a quart of "onomyx" to 35 total gallons is a good amout to allow the 2% to work sufficiently. take into acct temp and humidity for dwell and effectivness

Just reread your 2nd post, did you do a 2nd treatment w/15gals? or was the first post suppose to be 15 not 5 gal?
If 15g at 12.5% to 30g water, available chlorine would be 4.16%
