Just finished a house & got a call from the homeowner stating that there are a few white streaks in the driveway that won't come out with a hose. I rinsed the driveway like I normally do, and this has yet to happen to me. I'm assuming I should be able to just pressure wash or use my surface cleaner to remove?
I will bet anything that sh runnoff got on the concrete and actually cleaned it. If thats the case I would just spray the whole drive with roof mix. We have to do that here from time to time because we live in the land of NO gutters.
thanks guys, yeah it's an asphalt driveway ... we rinsed afterwards but didn't wet prior too
clyde, what do you normally do if that happens? i'm surprised this hasn't happened to me yet.
like I said mike I wasn't able to do anything about it, one time I had to pay to have it recoated 30.00 dollars for a senior adult drive, a couple of other times it wasn't big enough to complain about it.
you must keep the asphalt wet, or redirect the down spouts, and try not to do any mixing on the drive
It seems to happen more and more when the payment is very hot, smooth and very black
but if you keep it wet you wont have any problems
sorry I doubt that you will be able to fix your problem other than recoating with tar.
I was thinking the one time I couldn't get the white streaks out perhaps it was because I only used medium pressure, maybe you should try to use high pressure, you have nothing to lose
Its been so long since I had that problem I forgot.

I had this happen once. I got the stain out by wetting the asphalt and scrubbing with a stiff bristle broom (watch so you don't remove the coating from the driveway). The spot I had was only a small area though!
thanks guys, my customer just called and said she wet the area, and like you said Barry, went over it with a broom ... she said there's a little still there but nothing to worry about ... the downspout went onto the driveway & when my guy removed the bag a little got out and he didn't soak it enough ... one more thing to pay attention to in the future
boy I have never been able to get them out, It seems as if it happens to really smooth black asphalt, I always try to keep it wet
I am anxious to see if someone knows how to get em out
I know how to to get 'em out.. Call these guys and stroke a check LOL. That's what I did when the mix left a white residue in the driveway of an extremely high end home near me.
$112 later, problem solved and the client was very pleased with the white glove service we'd provided.
I had a small amount of white left by an SH run on an asphalt driveway once. I got some paint thinner, a push broom and an old towel and wet the towel with the thinner and pushed it around and it all blended and disappeared.

Asphalt driveways that are new or just re " sealed " should be a main priority when setting up. Wet the whole driveway down right to the curb, and keep it wet the entire job. When removing a bag from drain pipe on the driveway have the hose running there for any mistakes or extra run out from the gutter. I remember one of my first jobs with Asphalt ....like 8 streaks rt down the drive way.....the home owner never said anything...Thank God!
i had this happen to me last week. they had just sealcoated the driveway i cleaned the concrete around the driveway and then after i was done i noticed a gutter running into the driveway. So i power washed the drive way with a 40 degree tip about a foot away from the driveway and it lightend up and about 95% came out. I was told over time the rain will eventually even it out.

That's interesting, makes sense they are both petroleum based. I keep that in mind.

Ya, that was the 1st thought that came to my mind.
It was only a 6' x 1' or less, run from a gutter overflow from a rain latter that day - I kept the driveway wet with sprinkers while working. I guess when the rain flooded the SH/salt onto the drive, it just dried with a chemical discoloration line.
The customer called, I thought of asphalt and paint thinner and brought them with me and in 10 minutes, all was well.
It might not have worked so well if it was all over the driveway?
